11.3 INDICAZIONI DEDUCIBILI DALL'ESAME VISIVO
DELLA CANDELA
NOTA - I depositi carboniosi e la colorazione dell'isolante
(attorno all'elettrodo centrale) forniscono utili indi-
cazioni sul grado termico della candela, sulla car-
burazione, sulla lubrificazione e sullo stato ge-
nerale del motore.
Una colorazione marrone chiaro (dell'isolante)
indica il corretto funzionamento generale.
Depositi neri fuligginosi, secchi (al tatto) , opa-
chi, indicano che la temperatura di funzionamen-
to è troppo bassa (grado termico della candela
troppo elevato), carburazione troppo ricca o ac-
censione difettosa.
Isolante di colore biancastro indica miscela trop-
po "magra" o grado termico della candela trop-
po basso (candela troppo "calda") .
11.4 CONTROLLO DISTANZA
ELETTRODI
• Controllare la distanza degli elettro-
di (agendo soltanto sull'elettrodo di
massa), utilizzando uno spessore
calibrato: la distanza dovrà essere
di 0,7 ÷ 0,8 mm.
È importante controllare la distanza degli
elettrodi anche se la candela è nuova.
Candele con grado termico diverso da quello
deducibile dalle sigle consigliate possono
danneggiare gravemente il motore.

useful information on the heat rating of the spark
plug, on the carburetion, on the lubrication and
on the general conditions of the engine.
The light brown colour (of the insulating mate-
rial) shows the proper general functioning.
Black, dry (to touch), sooty and tarnished depo-
sits show that the functioning temperature is too
low (the heat rating of the spark plug is too high),
carburetion too rich or faulty ignition.
Whitish insulating material shows an "extremely
light" mixture or the heat rating of the spark plug
too low (spark plug too "hot").
11.4 CHECKING THE ELECTRODE
DISTANCE
• Check the distance between the
electrodes (operating only on the
ground electrode), using a gauged
shim: the distance should be 0.7 :
0.8 mm.
Spark plugs with heat rating different from the
one deductible from the abbreviations
suggested, can seriously damage the engine.
