c. ALERT SYSTEM/WARNING SYSTEM
Perform MIL initial check before starting the engine.
The warning buzzer can sound when the starter motor speed is extremely low, but the alert system/warning system is
normal if the buzzer stops sounding after starting the engine.
When the warning buzzer keeps sounding after MIL initial check, refer to the following symptom chart and perform
necessary troubleshooting.
If the symptom is not shown on the following symptom chart, perform function test according to the procedure on page
2-36 or 2-37.
• SYMPTOM CHART
Condition
Combination switch ON
(MIL initial check)
2 sec. after turning combination switch ON
Normal operation
Low oil pressure (P. 2-40)
Overheat (P. 2-40)
MIL faulty (P. 2-44)
Abnormal charging (P. 2-44)
:ON
:OFF
When two or more problems occur simultaneously, warning for each problem is indicated simultaneously.
When a problem occurred simultaneously with the malfunction of the MIL:
*1: The oil indicator light blinks when a problem with the oil pressure switch is indicated.
*2: The overheat indicator light blinks when a problem with the ECT sensor is indicated.
The buzzer of the prolonged sound takes precedence over the short sound.
Example: When problems with overheat and abnormal charging are detected simultaneously, the buzzer is the
continuous sound.
• OIL ALERT SYSTEM
When the oil pressure switch detects low oil pressure, the ECM receives the signal from the oil pressure switch and
decreases the engine speed gradually to 1,800 min
OFF. When the problem is corrected, the oil indicator light (green) comes ON, the buzzer stops sounding, the engine
speed increases gradually and the engine is restored to normal running.
• OVERHEAT ALERT SYSTEM
When the ECM detects overheat condition by receiving the signal from the ECT sensors, it decreases the engine speed
gradually to 1,800 min
-1
(rpm). The buzzer sounds and the overheat indicator light (red) comes ON. When the problem is
not removed within 20 seconds, the ECM decreases the engine speed further until it stops. When the problem is
corrected during this operation sequence, the overheat indicator light (red) goes OFF, the ECM stops sounding the buzzer
and it increases the engine speed gradually until the engine is restored to normal running.
• ALTERNATOR WARNING SYSTEM
The alternator indicator light (red) comes ON and the buzzer sounds (intermittent sound) when the battery voltage drops
abnormally.
• MIL WARNING SYSTEM
The MIL (red) comes ON and the buzzer sounds (intermittent sound) when the ECM diagnostic function detects a problem.
