2. ENGINE OIL

Inspection:
1) Start the engine, let it run to warm up to the normal
operating temperature and stop the engine.

Place the outboard motor in the vertical position (with the
engine level), and remove the engine cover (P. 4-2).

2) Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean with a shop towel.

3) Insert the dipstick into the oil level pipe securely and check
the oil level. Check whether the oil is dirty or shows milky

color.

4) If the oil level is low, remove the oil filler cap and add the

recommended engine oil to bring the oil level up to the
upper level mark on the dipstick.

5) Replace the oil if it is dirty (P. 3-4).

6) If the oil shows milky color, check the seals and gaskets and
replace them with new ones if necessary (Section 6, 9 or
13
11).

7) Reinstall the oil filler cap securely.
