3. OIL FILTER CARTRIDGE

Replacement:
1) Remove the engine cover (P. 4-2).

2) Drain the engine oil as described in the oil change
procedure (P. 3-4).

3) Place a shop towel under the oil filter to absorb any spilled

oil.
4) Attach the special tool to the oil filter and remove the oil
5
filter cartridge.

5) Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring on the inner side of a

new oil filter cartridge.

6) Clean the cartridge mounting base of the engine side oil
filter flange, and coat the stud with clean engine oil.

• Use only a genuine Honda oil filter or a filter of equivalent
12
quality specified for your model. Using the wrong Honda
filter, or a not-Honda filter that is not of equivalent quality,
may cause engine damage.

7) Screw on the cartridge by hand first, then screw it in to the
14
specified torque using the special tool used for removing
the cartridge.

TOOL:

TORQUE: 12 N . m (1.2 kgf . m, 9 lbf . ft)

8) Refill the engine with the specified amount of the
18
recommended oil as described in the oil change procedure,
and start the engine to warm it up to the normal operating
temperature.

Stop the engine, and check for leaks from the oil filter
cartridge.

9) Check the oil level. If necessary, add oil to the upper level
mark on the dipstick (P. 3-3).
10) Install the engine cover (P. 4-2).
