REMOVING THE STARTER MOTOR
PINION
Remove:
• Clips
NOTE:
Slide the pinion stopper 1 down as shown
and then remove the clips 2.
INSPECTING THE STARTER MOTOR
PINION
1. Inspect:
• Starter motor pinion teeth
Damage/wear → Replace.
2. Inspect:
• Starter motor pinion movement
Incorrect → Replace.
NOTE:
Rotate the starter motor pinion clockwise
and make sure it moves smoothly. Also,
rotate the starter motor pinion counter-
clockwise and make sure it locks.
INSPECTING THE ARMATURE
1. Inspect:
• Commutator
Foreign matter → Clean.
(with 600 grit sandpaper)
2. Measure:
• Commutator diameter
Out of specification → Replace.
Commutator diameter limit
32.0 mm (1.26 in)
