1. Measure:
• Piston ring end gap a
(with a thickness gauge)
Out of specification → Replace.
Piston ring end gap
0.30 - 0.40 mm
(0.012 - 0.016 in)
Piston ring end gap limit
0.60 mm (0.024 in)
Measuring point "H"
20 mm (0.8 in)
NOTE:
Push the piston ring into the cylinder with
the piston crown.
2. Measure:
• Piston ring side clearance b
(with a thickness gauge)
Out of specification → Replace the pis-
ton and piston rings as a set.
Piston ring side clearance
0.02 - 0.06 mm
(0.001 - 0.002 in)
NOTE:
When measuring the piston ring side clear-
ance, the outside of the piston ring should
be flush with the piston wall.
INSPECTING THE OIL PUMP DRIVEN
GEAR
Inspect:
• Oil pump driven gear
Cracks/pitting/wear → Replace.
