3. Tracheoesophageal speech with a voice prosthesis is produced by temporarily occluding the
opening of the Humidifilter Holder with a finger or thumb. Note: If the stoma is not completely
occluded, there may be difficulty voicing or a whistling sound.
Cleaning the HumidiFilter Holder
Never clean the HumidiFilter Holder while it is in position in the neck. Only clean the HumidiFilter
Holder after it has been removed from the tracheostoma housing or tube.
1. Pull the HumidiFilter foam filter out of the Holder with forceps and discard the foam. Retain the
HumidiFilter Holder to be cleaned and reused.
2. Clean the HumidiFilter Holder with mild soap and warm water. Rinse with water.
3. Dry with a lint-free cloth or allow to air-dry. Never use facial or toilet tissue to dry the HumidiFilter
Holder as particles of lint or fabric may be deposited onto the device that can be inhaled into the
airway upon reinsertion.
Sleeping
The HumidiFilter Holder must be removed before sleeping in order to avoid the potential for airway
obstruction.
