• OVERRUNNING CLUTCH
1) Install the overrunning clutch on the armature as shown.
Turn the overrunning clutch right and left and check for
smooth axial movement.
If it does not move smoothly, clean the spline and coat it
with grease, then check the overrunning clutch again.
2) Turn the pinion gear while holding the overrunning clutch.
The gear should turn only clockwise.
If the pinion gear turns in both directions, or if it does not
turn at all, replace the overrunning clutch.
3) Check the pinion gear teeth for wear or damage, and
replace the overrunning clutch if necessary.
If the pinion gear teeth is worn or damaged, check the ring
gear teeth of the alternator rotor, too.
