6. VERTICAL SHAFT/BEVEL GEAR

1 a. DISASSEMBLY
Remove the following parts.
- Propeller (P. 11-2)

- Gear case assembly (P. 11-3)
- Propeller shaft holder assembly (P. 11-7)

- Water pump/shift rod (P. 11-19)
1) Attach the special tool to the end (primary driven gear

installation side) of the vertical shaft.
TOOL:

2) Place a shop towel or equivalent material as shown to
protect the gear case.

3) Holding the vertical shaft with the special tool, remove the
12 mm special flange nut and remove the pinion gear from
8
the vertical shaft.

4) Remove the vertical shaft assembly from the gear case

assembly.

5) Remove the water bottom tube and the rubber set plate
from the gear case assembly.
