• Keep heat, sparks and flame away.
• Wipe up spills immediately.
• Handle fuel only outdoors.

a. REMOVAL

Remove the following part.
- Engine cover (P. 4-2)

1) Move the tilt lever to the "FREE" position, and raise the

outboard motor to the uppermost position. Hold the
outboard motor in the uppermost position.

Lock the outboard motor with the tilt stopper, and move the
tilt lever to the "LOCK" position.

2) Drain the gasoline from the vapor separator and the fuel
12
strainer (low pressure side).
Lift the outboard motor up with a hoist, and place it on its
13
right side (intake manifold side).
3) Remove the 10 mm E-rings from the upper cylinder pin,
14
and remove the upper cylinder pin.

Remove the piston rod of the gas assisted damper
assembly from the swivel case assembly.

Check the upper cylinder bushings on the piston rod of the
gas assisted damper assembly for wear, damage or
17
deformation. Replace the upper cylinder bushings with
new ones if necessary.

If the upper cylinder bushings have been removed, replace
them with new ones on reassembly.
