K-MINC-2000 Instructions for Use
6. Service and maintenance
WARNING: To guarantee safe operation, it is necessary to carry out
proper care and maintenance of the MINC+ and disposables. Regular checks
are recommended to confirm that the device is functioning correctly.
WARNING: New and repaired products must be prepared and tested
according to the user manual before use.
6.1 Changing the humidification flasks
WARNING: BIOLOGICAL HAZARD. Do not use a contaminated
humidification flask in the MINC+.
If the flask is used continuously, it can be used until the water level
reaches the MIN FILL line on the front of the flask.
If the flasks are not used continuously, there may be an increased risk of
biological contamination. If the device is not in use, remove the flasks
and replace with new flasks upon startup.
Do not refill the flasks.
To change the humidification flasks:
1. Ensure that the gas flow to each chamber is turned off. It is also
recommended that the power cord to the MINC+ be removed from
the mains supply wall socket.
2. Lift both heater chamber lids and slide out the humidification flasks.
For detailed instructions refer to Section 4.10.4.
3. It is recommended that the entire device be cleaned prior to the
installation of a new humidification flask. Refer to Section 6.2.
4. Prepare and insert a new flask into each HF bay. Refer to Section
4.10.2 and 4.10.3.
5. To recommence operation of the MINC+, turn on the gas flow to
begin the gas purge process.
6. Allow 4 hours for the water to heat and saturate with CO
7. Accelerate the equilibration process, if desired, by following these steps:
a. Preheat the aseptically prepared humidification flask to 35 °C in
Step 4.
b. Purge the system, as described in Step 5, at least four times in
quick succession.
Performing these steps will allow immediate use of the device.

6.2 Cleaning the incubator
6.2.1 Full cleaning
WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD. Do not immerse the MINC+ in
any type of liquid.
Before periodic cleaning, or if the MINC+ is not in use for extended
periods of time, follow the steps below.
1. Remove the contents of the incubation chambers.
2. Place the MINC+ in standby mode.
3. Disconnect the power cord from the mains supply outlet, and remove
the power cord from the power inlet at the rear of the device.
4. Remove the humidification flasks.
5. Remove the gas supply.
6. Clean the device per the instructions below.
It is recommended that the MINC+ be cleaned with aqueous 70%
isopropyl alcohol, purified water, or 3% hydrogen peroxide solution.
Moisten a cloth and wipe all internal and external surfaces of the device.
Do not immerse the device in the cleaning solution.
Clean the gas vent tubes located in the center of the front of each
chamber base with a small pipe cleaner wetted with the aqueous 70%
alcohol solution.
After cleaning, leave the lids of the unit open for 30 minutes to ensure
that all alcohol fumes have dissipated.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Purified water may be used to wipe device surfaces
when an alcohol solution is not available or suitable.
IMPORTANT NOTE: 70% aqueous ethanol maybe used only to clean
the aluminum anodized surfaces of the incubation chambers, the MWC
chamber, and the front decal, using a moistened cloth. Avoid contacting all
other plastic surfaces.
6.2.2 On-site cleaning
.
2
To perform an on-site cleaning of the incubator in the laboratory when
alcohol cannot be used, use a cloth moistened with purified water to
wipe the incubator surfaces. Removing the flasks is optional. It is also
recommended that the power to MINC+ be turned off by removing the
power cord from the power inlet at the rear of the device.
6.3 Cleaning the media warming chamber (MWC)
WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD. Ensure that the MWC
cradle and bay are dry before use. Before periodic cleaning of the MWC,
remove its contents. Shut down the device by removing the power cord. It is
recommended that the MWC be cleaned with aqueous 70% isopropyl alcohol,
purified water, or 3% hydrogen peroxide solution if alcohol is not available.
70% aqueous ethanol maybe used only to clean the aluminum anodized
surfaces of the MWC.
To clean the media warming chamber:
1. Lift the MWC cradle from its bay.
2. Moisten a cloth and wipe all internal and external surfaces of the
MWC cradle and its bay. The MWC cradle can be immersed in purified
water for cleaning.
3. After cleaning, ensure that the bay and the MWC cradle are dry.
Replace the MWC cradle in the bay.
