K-MINC-2000 Instructions for Use
5.6 Alarm conditions
5.6.1 External alarm
The MINC+ can connect to an external alarm response system that will
alert staff to alarms that activate outside of business hours. All alarm
conditions are recorded in the log files.
1
This external alarm connection can be one of two types of circuits:
• Normally open circuit (closes when a fault is detected).
• Normally closed circuit (opens when a fault is detected).
The external alarm connection will activate under the following conditions:
• Loss of mains power (after two minutes).
• Low inlet gas pressure (less than 50 kPa for more than 15 minutes).
• Low water level in the humidification flask (if the water level is less than
the minimum for more than 75 minutes).
• No gas flow or gas flow out of range during normal flow (< 21 mL/min
or > 35 mL/min) for more than 15 minutes.
• Incubation chamber temperature out of range from set point by 0.4 °C
for more than two minutes.
• Media warming chamber temperature out of range from set point by
1 °C for more than two minutes.
• Internal function error is detected.
Customer requirements for the external alarm response system should
be referred to a company that specializes in this type of equipment. Refer
to Section 8 for the alarm contact rating.
If any alarm condition is unable to be rectified, contact your local Cook
Medical representative or Cook Medical service agent.
5.6.2 Loss of mains power
If a loss of mains power is encountered, the following sequences will occur:
• If the MINC+ is switched on and one or both incubation chambers are
active, loss of mains power will cause the external alarm contacts to
activate if the power is still off after two minutes.
• If mains power is restored within two minutes, the external alarm will
not activate and the MINC+ will recommence normal operation.
• If mains power is restored after two minutes, the external alarm will
reset and the MINC+ will recommence normal operation.
• If the gas flow was active before the power was lost, then the MINC+ will
restart the flow sequence in gas purge mode when power is restored.
5.6.3 Low inlet gas pressure
When the inlet gas pressure goes below 50 kPa the gas flow status will
display a Low inlet gas pressure icon and emit an audible alarm every
30 seconds.
The external alarm contacts will activate 15 minutes later if the correct
inlet gas pressure is not restored. The alarm will reset when an inlet gas
pressure above 60 kPa is restored.
A warning icon will also be displayed on the center console while the
alert is active.
5.6.4 Low humidification flask water level
If a low water level is detected in the humidification flasks, an immediate
alert on the center console screen is displayed. The Low humidification
flask water level icon will start flashing in red and emit an audible alarm
after 15 minutes where the low water-level alert is detected.
If the water level remains low for longer than 75 minutes, the external
alarm contacts will activate and the Low humidification flask water
level icon will continue to be displayed and the audible alarm emitted.
Alarm contacts will reset if the humidification flask is replaced with a full
flask or if the water level alert is disabled.
5.6.5 No gas flow or gas flow out of range
If the normal gas flow is less than 21 mL/min or greater than 35 mL/min
(including no gas flow) for longer than 10 minutes, the normal gas flow
status will display the Normal gas flow out of range icon and emit an
audible alarm every 30 seconds. The external alarm contacts will activate
5 minutes later.
To reset the alarm after rectification of the cause, press the Unlock
button and then toggle the Enable/disable gas flow button. The normal
flow out of range alarms will remain active until they have been manually
reset after rectification of the cause.
If the gas-purge flow rate is less than 259 mL/min or greater than
450 mL/min for more than 2 minutes during the 3 minute purge cycle, a
warning icon will also be displayed on the center console and logged as a
purge flow out of range notification.
To conserve gas, the flow will revert to normal gas flow status after
the elapsed 3 minute purge cycle regardless of the attained purge
flow. Toggle the associated chamber Enable/disable gas flow button
to acknowledge the notification. If the problem repeats during the
subsequent purge cycle, contact your local Cook Medical service agent.
5.6.6 Temperature out of range
When the MINC+ has just been turned on or the set temperature has
been adjusted, the temperature alarm is deactivated for 120 minutes to
allow the device to reach stable conditions without the alarm activating.
If after 120 minutes the incubation chamber temperature differs from
the set point temperature by greater than ± 0.4 °C, for longer than 2
minutes, the chamber display will show a Temperature out of range
icon, the temperature value will be red, an audible alarm will sound, and
the external alarm contacts will be activated. To reset the alarm, touch
the Unlock button and then toggle the Enable/ disable heater button
off and on.
If the media warming chamber temperature is out of range by more than
+/- 1 ºC for longer than 2 minutes, when the MWC temperature alarm
is activated, the three LEDs in the front panel below the MWC lid will
flash red, the MWC temperature value will be red, an audible alarm will
sound, and the external alarm contacts will be activated. To reset the
MWC temperature alarm, open and close the MWC lid or toggle both
incubation chambers Enable/disable heater off and on.
A warning icon will also be displayed on the center console while the
alert is active.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Resetting an incubation chamber or MWC
temperature alarm will deactivate that alarm for a further 120 minutes.
5.6.7 Chamber screen and center console error displays
The table below shows the icons that will display on the incubation
chamber screens. A warning icon will also simultaneously display on the
center console.
Icon name
Low inlet gas pressure
Normal gas flow rate out of range
Temperature out of range
Low humidification flask water level
5.6.8 Internal functional error
If an internal error is detected, a five-digit number will be displayed in the
top left-hand corner of either or both chamber display screens. The alert
symbol will also be displayed on the center console.
Should an internal functional error be detected, the MINC+ will try to
rectify the error, in some cases performing a restart. If the error persists
after the restart, the external contacts will activate to alert the user of
an abnormal condition. If the alarm condition is unable to be rectified,
contact your local Cook Medical service agent.
5.7 After use
If the MINC+ will not be used for an extended period of time, follow the
steps below.
1. Place the MINC+ in standby mode.
2. Turn off power to the device.
3. Remove the humidification flasks.
4. Disconnect the power cord.
5. Disconnect the gas supply.
6. Clean the device (refer to Section 6.2).
