K-MINC-2000 Instructions for Use
• Dual scale gauges (optional low-pressure gauge recommended,
200 kPa, full scale).
• Ability to connect to gas cylinders that contain a special blend of
medical-grade gas.
• Delivery pressure of 150 kPa ± 15 kPa at the MINC+ gas inlet.
• Ability to maintain a 600 mL/min gas flow per MINC+device during the
1
gas purge cycle without undue supply-pressure sag.
• A Swagelok® SS-400-1-4RT outlet fitting to match the Braided
Connecting Tube supplied with the MINC+ (assuming that the regulator
outlet has a 1/4 inch ISO thread).

4.7.3 Connection to gas cylinder
WARNING: Use only a suitable medical gas-pressure regulator set to a
nominal 150 kPa. Do not use flow restrictors or flow regulators in the gas line.
WARNING: Do not use silicone tubing in the connection between the
gas cylinder and the MINC+, or in series connections of multiple devices.
Connect the regulator to the MINC+ with the supplied Braided Connecting
Tube. It has a nontoxic, low-permeability PTFE lining that prevents the loss of
CO
content associated with high-pressure use of more permeable materials
2
such as silicone and PVC. Silicone tubing is relatively porous to pressurized
CO
and must not be used anywhere in the connection from the gas cylinder,
2
because the correct gas concentrations may not reach the MINC+ chambers.
The MINC+ and Braided Connecting Tube are fitted with Swagelok ¼ inch
series tube fittings ready for connection. The standard tube length is
3 meters. Alternative lengths are available in 60 cm, 100 cm, 6 m, 10 m, and
20 m. A union fitting is available to connect Braided Connecting Tubes.
Refer to your local Cook Medical representative for more information.
The outlet fitting on the pressure regulator must be a Swagelok ¼ inch
series tube fitting. Any ferrule and backnut supplied with the regulator
outlet fitting are surplus to requirements.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All Swagelok ¼ inch series tube fittings require a
9/16 inch wrench (spanner) for tightening the backnut. Ensure that all gas
connections are tightly secured.
4.7.4 Connection to single device
1. Connect the supplied Braided Connecting Tube to the regulator
outlet fitting.
2. Remove the thread protector cap from the gas inlet T-piece on the
rear of the MINC+ device. (Retain the thread protector cap.)
3. Connect the Braided Connecting Tube to the gas inlet T-piece,
ensuring that it is tightly secured.
4. Ensure that the blanking cap on the other side of the gas inlet T-piece
is tightly secured also.

4.7.5 Connection for multiple devices
If multiple MINC+ devices must be operated from a single gas supply
point, the devices can be connected sequentially, as described below.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Ensure that your pressure regulator can flow at
a sufficient rate for the MINC+. Check that the regulated pressure is still a
nominal 150 kPa at the last series connected MINC+ with all the devices
purging.
A minimum flow capability (without causing undue supply pressure sag)
of 600 mL/min per MINC+ device is required during the gas purge cycle.
To ensure that the incubator at the end of the series receives sufficient
gas pressure, it is recommended connecting no more than seven
devices in series when the provided gas fittings are used. The Braided
Connecting Tube can be ordered in different lengths to suit individual
installation requirements. Contact your Cook Medical representative for
further details.
WARNING: Silicone tubing must not be used to connect multiple
devices. For multiple connections, it is recommended to use only the Braided
Connecting Tubes available from Cook.
1. Remove the thread protector and blanking cap from the gas inlet
T-piece connection points of all but the last device in the sequence.
For the last device, remove only the thread protector.
2. Connect the Braided Connecting Tube of the last device to the
second gas connection point of the previous device.
3. Repeat Step 2 until all devices are linked.
4. Connect the supplied Braided Connecting Tube to the regulator
outlet fitting.
5. Connect the Braided Connecting Tube from the gas supply to the gas
inlet T-piece of the first unit in the sequence.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Blanking caps must be tightened onto any unused
gas connections. Store unused blanking caps in case the independent
operation of the devices is required in the future.
4.7.6 Testing for gas leaks
The instructions below must be performed each time a Braided
Connecting Tube connection is made to ensure that a reliable, leak-proof
seal is established.
1. Ensure that the fitting body, tube end, and ferrules are free of any
foreign materials.
2. Insert the tube adaptor with preswaged ferrules into the fitting body
until the front ferrule contacts the fitting body.
