10 If malfunctions occur

If a repair is not done properly there is a risk of injury or damage!
Incorrect repair or modifications to the cylinder may result in the risk of injury or damage.
When repairing a cylinder, use only spare parts and reconditioning kits listed in the
product catalogue.

Possible cause
On cylinders with slide bearing
guide (RMC-SB) the play in the
shuttle may increase over time
because of wear.
Pressure low or absent.
Cushioning over-tightened.
The seal is damaged. Leakage due
to solid matter in the compressed
air.
Cushioning incorrectly set.
Varying pressure.
Oil in the cylinder.
Lack of lubrication, eg due to
extreme use.
Lever too long.
The cylinder is oriented horizon-
tally with the shuttle faced down.
If malfunctions occur
Remedy
Re-adjust as described under "Re-
adjust the play in the shuttle" on page
66.
Check the connected pressure.
Slacken the cushioning screws.
Otherwise, check the seal.
Check seal and sealing strip. Replace
if necessary. Available as a
reconditioning kit; see the product
catalogue.
Adjust the cushioning as described
under "Setting the speed and
cushioning", page 63.
Check the connected pressure and
ensure that the conditions are
constant.
Wipe clean and lubricate the cylinder.
Check the oil content of the
compressed air.
Replace piston seals and lubricate
the cylinder.
Check that the maximum permitted
lever length has not been exceeded.
Remove the sealing strip.
