Make sure that the load is properly attached for the specific application, and
that the attachment can handle the load for which the cylinder is
dimensioned.
Make sure that any object fitted to the front plate or to the cylinder body is
absolutely flat, or flexible enough to not deform the front plate or the
cylinder body. Use shims or washers on the screw fittings if required.
Deformation may cause the cylinder to move sluggishly or not at all.

Commissioning
The cylinder may only be commissioned by a specialist in pneumatics or by
a person under the control and supervision of such a specialist (see
"Personnel qualifications").
If the cylinder is not properly installed, there is a risk of injury or damage!
An incorrectly installed cylinder may come loose in service and damage other
parts of the system or injure personnel.
O Check carefully that all components are securely fixed.
O The protective plugs must be left in the cylinder ports until the compressed air
lines are connected.
Risk of crushing or impact!
If compressed air is wrongly connected, the shuttle may move in the wrong
direction or be pushed along very fast, with a great risk of causing injury or
damage.
O Check that the compressed air supply is connected to the correct port.
O Check that all ports are connected or plugged.
O To prevent cylinder runaway when starting, increase the pressure slowly.
O Make sure that there is no-one in the risk area when the compressed air is
turned on.
Setting the speed
Risk of injury or damage!
A cylinder that is operated without speed control can reach high speeds, and may
cause injury or machine breakdown.
O Make sure that the cylinder is always operated with speed control.
The speed is normally controlled by throttling the
1
exhaust air from the cylinder chambers with, for
example, check-choke valves (1).
When the speed is being set, the cylinder must be
loaded as in normal service and the speed must be
increased gradually to the desired operating speed.
00129071
Set the piston speed and cushioning as follows:
1. Make sure that the pressure is zero and then increase the pressure slowly to the
desired working pressure.
2. Sligthly open the check-choke valves.
3. Increase the piston speed by opening the check-choke valves gradually to reach
the desired operating speed.
Do not set the operating speed higher than neces-sary. The speed must be adapted
to the load of the cylinder in order to not exceed the maximum permit-ted cushioning
energy. Refer to the calculation tool on the Internet, or to the tables in the main
catalogue.

Service and maintenance
The unit may be damaged by solvents and aggressive cleaning agents!
If aggressive chemicals are used, the GPC cylinder may be damaged or its life
may be shortened.
O Never use solvents or strong detergents.
Water must not be allowed to enter the cylinder body!
If water gets in it will damage the cylinder by destroying the lubricant and the
seals.
O Never hose down the cylinder with water.
O Always keep the cylinder pressurised if water or water mist are present.
O Make sure that water and water mist cannot enter via the compressed air
connections.
O Clean the unit with a slightly moistened cloth when necessary. Use only a little
water or mild detergent.
7
If malfunctions occur
If a repair is not done properly there is a risk of injury or damage!
Incorrect repair or modifications to the cylinder may result in the risk of injury or
damage.
O When repairing a cylinder, use only spare parts and reconditioning kits listed
in the product catalogue.
