2. STARTER MOTOR

a. DISASSEMBLY/REASSEMBLY
[1] SNAP RING
DISASSEMBLY:
Hold the armature upright, place an offset
wrench over the pinion stopper, and drive
the collar down exposing the snap ring.
Remove the snap ring, then remove the
collar and drive assembly.

STOPPER
REASSEMBLY:
Check for smooth movement by rotating
the overrunning clutch. Check the gear
teeth for wear or damage, replace if
necessary. Also, check the flywheel ring
gear teeth if the pinion gear teeth are
damaged.

• FRONT BRACKET/REAR BRACKET INSTALLATION
1) Install the armature in the yoke.
2) Align the cutout of the rear bracket with the brush terminal
grommet and install the rear bracket.
3) Install the pinion drive lever to the overrunning clutch.
4) Set the starter solenoid by aligning the solenoid pin with
the pinion drive lever.
5) Install the front bracket and two 5 x 98 mm through bolts
and tighten the 6 mm flange nuts.
