4. SPARK PLUG
Inspection:
If the engine has been running, the engine will be very hot.
Allow it to cool before proceeding,
1) Open the left maintenance cover.
2) Loosen the plug cover bolt and remove the plug cover.
3) Remove the spark plug cap, and remove the spark plug
using a spark plug wrench (commercially available 13/16
inch plug wrench).
4) Visually inspect the spark plug. Discard the plug if the
insulator is cracked, chipped or fouled.

5) Check the sealing washer for damage. Replace the spark
plug if the sealing washer damaged.
6) Measure the plug gap with a wire-type feeler gauge. If the
measurement is outside the specification, adjust by
bending the side electrode.

7) Install the spark plug fingertight to seat the washer, and
then tighten with a plug wrench.
TORQUE: 18 N . m (1.8 kgf . m, 13 Ibf . ft)
• If reinstalling the used spark plug, tighten 1/8-1/4 turn
after the spark plug seats.
• If installing a new spark plug, tighten 1/2 turn after the
spark plug seats.
NOTICE
A loose spark plug can become very hot and can damage
the engine. Overtightening can damage the threads in the
cylinder head.
8) Install the plug cap and plug cover.
Tighten the plug cover bolt to the specified torque.
TORQUE: 2.3 N . m (0.2 kgf . m, 1.7 Ibf . ft)
