Preliminary Note: All information provided in this
manual refers to a horizontal lifeline equipped with a
flexible anchor line. This manual provides information
on the installation of travspring™, travspring™ One and
travsmart lifelines.

1. General warning

1 The travspring™, travspring™ One and travsmart
lifelines are designed to control serious risks of
people falling. For this reason, it is essential for the
security of installation and use of the equipment
and for its efficiency, to read this manual and strictly
adhere to the instructions herein before and during
installation and use of the lifeline.
2 This manual must be delivered to the user of the
lifeline and be kept available to any user and
installer. Additional copies may be provided by
Tractel
SAS on request.
®
3 Using a travspring™, travspring™ One or travsmart
lifeline requires that you also use and connect fall
arresting personal protective equipment (PPE)
including, for each operator, at least one complete
fall arrest harness, and resources for hooking up
and connection. This assembly should constitute
a system to prevent or stop any fall from height
within conditions that comply with the applicable
regulations and safety standards.
4 If the lifeline is destined to arrest the fall of an
operator, the operator must use a fall arrest system
that complies with EN 363. This system must
guarantee a fall arrest effort of less than 6 kN. If the
lifeline is destined exclusively to limit the movement
of the operator outside the areas of risk of falling,
the operator can connect using a lanyard without
fall arrest system in compliance with EN 363. In
this case, the lifeline will be described as "restricted
access".
5 The information plate (see Section 7), which must be
affixed by law, must be kept fully legible throughout
the lifespan of the lifeline. Additional copies may be
provided by Tractel
SAS on request.
®
6 Each operator who must use a travspring™,
travspring™ One or travsmart lifeline must meet the
physical fitness and professional prerequisites for
working at height. If in doubt, consult your doctor
or the occupational physician. They must have

received appropriate prior theoretical training and
practice in risk-free conditions, using the PPE in
accordance with safety requirements. This training
should include comprehensive information on the
chapters of this manual concerning the use of this
device. Use is prohibited for pregnant women.
7 As each lifeline system constitutes a specific case,
any installation of a travspring™, travspring™ One
or travsmart lifeline must be preceded by a specific
technical study for its installation, to be performed
by a qualified technician, including the necessary
calculations based on the Specifications and this
manual. This study must take into account the
layout of the installation site, including a check of the
suitability and mechanical strength of the structure
to which the travspring™, travspring™ One or
travsmart lifeline will be affixed. This must be
integrated into a usable technical file by the installer.
8 The lifeline must be installed using appropriate
means, in safety conditions that fully control fall
hazards incurred by the installer, because of the
layout of the site.
9 The use, maintenance and management of
travspring™, travspring™ One or travsmart lifelines
should be placed under the responsibility of people
who are conversant with the safety regulations
and standards applicable to this type of equipment
and associated accessories. Each user must
have read and understood this manual. When first
commissioned, the conformity of the installation
with the prior study file and this manual must be
checked by a competent person.
10 The user responsible for the use of the lifeline should
monitor it and ensure continuing compliance of the
lifeline and the PPE associated with it, with security
requirements and the rules and standards applied
in the field. They must ensure the inter-compatibility
of the associated PPE and compatibility with the
lifeline
11 The life line and associated equipment should
never be used if they are not in obvious good
condition. If a defect is detected visually or if there
is any doubt whatsoever about the lifeline, it is
imperative to correct the defect before further use.
Periodic control of the travspring™, travspring™
One, travsmart and associated PPE lifelines, must
be organised at least once a year, as described in
Chapter 10, under the guidance of a competent
