6.10. Installing the cable
6.10.1. General information
The lifeline cable (figures 1/2/3, item G) is moored on
the sleeved end side, either:
– If a lifeline has two shock absorbers, on the end
anchor (figure 1/3, item A) of the INRS shock
absorber (figures 1/3, item D) and through the quick
link connector (figures 1/3, item J) provided with the
cable.
– In the lifeline has a single shock absorber, on the
end anchor (figure 2, item A), through the quick link
connector (figure 2, item J) provided with the end
anchor.
"Note": In some cases of cable installation, the
quick link connectors (figure 2, item J) could be
superfluous.
The lifeline cable (figures 1/2/3, item G) is moored
on the free end side using the corner unit and
accompanying cable (figures 1/2/3, item H) on the INRS
damper (figures 1/2/3, item D) through the mooring axis
provided with the corner unit (Figs 1/2/3, item H).
In the standard delivery, travspring™, travspring™ One
or travsmart lifeline cables (figures 1/2/3, item G)
come wound on a steel drum or reel and accompanied
by a corner unit (figures 1 / 2/3, item H) and a quick
link connector (figures 1/2/3, item J). These items are
placed in a polyethylene bag and fastened to the drum
or reel.
In the standard delivery, corner unit (figure 1/2, item H)
is equipped with mooring axis, a protective cap for the
cable end and quick link connector (figures 1 / 2/3,
item J).
6.10.2. Installing the two INRS shock absorbers on
the lifeline
Installing side sleeved loop
The following installation procedure is seen in
Figure 23, Page 12:
a) Insert the sleeved end of the cable (item 12) into the
quick link connector (figures 1/3, item J) located on
the INRS shock absorber (figures 1/3, item D).
b) Tighten the connector lock nut (item 11) and fully
tighten using an open ended spanner.
Installation complete.
Installation on the anchors
Insert the cable inside the intermediate anchors (Figs
1/2/3, item E) and, if necessary, through the angle
anchors (Figs 1/2/3, item I) in complience with Chapters
6.5 and 6.6.
"Note": For tensioning longer lengths, the use of
a "Tirvit™" cable tensioner is recommended. Use a
dynamometer to check that the tension force is not
more than 100 daN.
"Important": A tensioning strength of more than
100 daN could lead to a deformation of the shock
absorbers, the angle anchor or the end anchors. Where
a shock absorber, a bend anchor bend or end anchor
has suffered deformation due to excessive tension, it
must be replaced.
Installation complete.
Installing the side corner unit
The box unit installation procedure as seen in Figure 24,
page 13.
a Remove the corner (item 2) after removing the
retaining wire (item 4).
b. Insert the strand of the cable (item 9) through the
opening for inserting and withdrawing the cable
(item 5) located opposite the mooring axis (item 3).
c. Create a loop in the cable (item 7) and re-introduce
the free strand of the cable (item 9) into the unit
(item 1), then draw it out through the opening for
inserting and withdrawing the cable (item 5).
d. Place the corner (item 2) in the cable loop (item 7),
then pull back on the free strand of the cable
(item 9) whilst holding the unit in order to lock the
corner (item 2) inside the box (item 1).
e Hold the unit and corner assembly in place then
moor the unit (item 1) onto the shock absorber
using the mooring axis (item 3) to fit the two split
rings (item 6).
f
Manually tighten the cable by simultaneously
pushing the moored strand (item 8) and pulling on
the free strand (item 9).
g Check by pulling hard on the moored strand (item 8)
that the cable is firmly locked in the unit, then thread
the protective cap on the end of the free strand of
the cable (item 10).
Corner unit installation is terminated.
h) Tension the cable using the tensioner (section 6.11).
"Note": Tractel
recommends oiling the tensioner
®
in order to avoid any risk of seizure when tensioning the
lifeline (figure 25, page 13 ).
"Important": The locking of the cable in the corner
unit can only be guaranteed by the exclusive use of a
corner (item 2) supplied by Tractel
"Important": The thin end of the corner must always
be directed toward the unit to ensure cable locking.
