Speed control operating in emergency mode

For emergency mode ("Protection Mode" activated) two different types of speed setting are possible
and are programmed during start-up (see start-up wizard).
Types of speed setting in emergency mode:
1. Constant speed when programmed to "PM specification internal"
– The constant speed corresponds to a "software bypass". The fan is operated by the frequency
converter at a fixed speed.
– You can specify the constant speed in the frequency range from 20 to 50 Hz (presetting = 50 Hz).
– A typical use case here would be in automatic smoke extraction systems with only one smoke
extraction fan, where "Protection Mode" replaces a customer bypass circuit.
2. Variable speed when programmed to "PM specification external"
– The speed of the fan is variable and is specified by the analog input "E2" on the frequency
inverter using a 0...10 V / 4...20 mA signal from an external control (setting signal 0...100 %
output frequency 0...50 Hz).
– A typical use case would be in smoke protection pressure systems where constantly changing
fan speeds are required.
– Another use case is in multi-area systems (automatic smoke extraction systems), in which a
fixed speed is required for the entire smoke extraction time. This is specified by an external
control using a 0...10 V / 4...20 mA signal at analog input "E2". The specified constant speed
from an external control must be in the frequency range from 20 to 50 Hz.

Enabling and activation

It is important to differentiate between the terms and functions of "enabling" and "activation".
1. Enabling "Protection Mode" is carried out in the start-up wizard (Protection Mode = ON). For
safety reasons, it is also necessary to enter the PIN
2. Activation of "Protection Mode" is carried out using a contact at digital input "D2".
Information
When "Protection Mode" is enabled but not activated, = Standby mode, the frequency converter
operates in the same way as in standard mode
and the input "E2" is active instead of the analog input "E1".
Example of use
The frequency converter is used in an automatic smoke extraction system with extraction fans (safety
system). In this system, the smoke extraction fans are also used for day-to-day ventilation.
Possible process:
1. During start-up, "Protection Mode" is enabled.
2. During normal ventilation, "Protection Mode" is not active = Standby mode. This means that all
protection functions for the frequency converter and fan are still effective.
3. For emergency mode (smoke extraction), "Protection Mode" is activated by a digital contact, e.g.
by a smoke extraction fan control. In other words, the protective functions for the frequency
converter and fan are largely deactivated to maintain operation of the ventilation system for as
long as possible.

Start-up wizard and programming

Programming of "Protection Mode" is carried out during first-time start-up using the start-up wizard
(see First-time start-up).
Information
The first-time start-up wizard can be reactivated if required. To do this, go to the "Start" menu group
and under the "PIN input" parameter enter the number sequence
Pressing the "Esc" key combination cancels the setting and returns you to the previous parameter.
