WARNING:
Bearing types are specified in the respective product catalogues and on the rating plate of all motors.
Reliability is a vital issue for bearing lubrication intervals. ABB uses mainly the L

1.7.2.1 Motors with permanently greased bearings
HDP motors sizes 80 to 180 are equipped with permanently greased ball bearings of 2Z or an equivalent type.
Permanently greased bearings in the defined operating conditions are guaranteed for L
continuous use.
The following operating conditions are fulfilled to guarantee the above lifetime:
Nominal power
Nominal speed
Maximum acceptable radial/axial loads (data can be found in HDP Technical Catalogue)
Since HDP motors are intended for VSD operation, the calculated lifetime can vary depending on the motor duty
cycle.
For a known duty cycle, a more accurate data can be provided on request.
1.7.2.2 Motors with regreasable bearings
Motors sizes from 200 to 400 are equipped with open type regreasable bearings.
Motor sizes from 80 to 180 can be equipped with open type regreasable bearings on request.
Cylindrical roller bearings are of the regreasable type, regardless of the motor frame size.
High speed motors are equipped with open type regreasable bearings.
Lubrication information plate and general lubrication advice
If the motor is equipped with a lubrication information plate, follow the given values.
Greasing intervals regarding mounting, ambient temperature and rotational speed are defined on the lubrication
information plate.
During the first start or after a bearing lubrication, a temporary temperature rise may appear approximately for 10 to
20 hours.
Some motors may be equipped with a collector for old grease. Follow the special instructions given for the
equipment.
1.7.2.2.1 Manual lubrication
Regreasing while the motor is running
Procedure
1.
Remove grease outlet plug or open closing valve if fitted.
2.
Be sure that the lubrication channel is open.
3.
Inject the specified amount of grease into the bearing.
4.
Let the motor run for 1-2 hours to ensure that all excess grease is forced out of the bearing.
5.
Close the grease outlet plug or closing valve, if fitted.
Regreasing while the motor is at a standstill
About this task
If it is not possible to regrease the bearings while the motors are running, lubrication can be carried out while the
machine is at a standstill.
GREASE CAN CAUSE SKIN IRRITATION AND INFLAMMATION OF THE EYES.
