Suitable cable lugs must be used for the connection of all main cables. Cables for auxiliaries can be connected into
their terminal blocks as such.
1.4.7.2 Thermal protection
WARNING:
HDP motors are always equipped with thermistors or other RTDs (Pt100, thermal relays, etc.) and/or auxiliary
devices.
They have to be used and connected by appropriate means.
The thermal sensors integrated into the HDP motors must be connected to the converter control circuit and
adequate alarm levels must be set in order to prevent high temperatures and damage to the insulation of the
windings.
For all HDP applications, it is mandatory to use thermal protection.
More detailed information can be found in the documents delivered with the motor.
Connection diagrams for auxiliary elements and connection parts can be found inside the terminal box.
The maximum measuring voltage for the thermistors is 2.5 V. The maximum measuring current for Pt100 is 5 mA.
Using a higher measuring voltage or current may cause errors in readings or a damaged temperature detector. The
insulation of thermal sensors fulfils the requirements of basic insulation.
By default, the HDP motors are supplied with 3 PTC thermal sensors, which are connected in series. The threshold
value for PTC thermistors varies based on the motor shaft height:
•
Frame sizes 80-180: 150°C (*)
•
Frame sizes 200-400: 170°C
(*) the lower T value is due to the fact the thermal sensors in the range 80-180 are mounted at NE.
1.4.7.3 Motor feedback
HDP motors can be equipped with a programmable incremental encoder (VC698) or an absolute programmable
encoder SSI (Incremental or SINCOS) (VC699) where the supply type and number of pulses can be defined according
to Customer requirements
For other available encoder options, please check the connection case by case.
The signal connector of the standard encoder is a 12-pin male connector for industrial applications embedded in the
body of the motor. The pin layout of the encoder connector is as follows:
WINDINGS OF HDP MOTORS ARE MANUFACTURED ACCORDING TO CLASS H
INSULATION SYSTEM WITH A CLASS F TEMPERATURE RISE.
