PLC Configuration of the Valve System

PLC Configuration of the Valve System
For the bus coupler to exchange data from the modular valve system with the PLC, the PLC must
be able to detect the number of input and output modules. A sub-object is mapped to the input or
output PDO for each valve system module. This process is known as PLC configuration. Each of these
sub-objects has a data volume of 4 bytes. Only the bits that have functions in the module are used,
e.g. of these 4 bytes, a 2x valve driver uses only the 4 bits with the lowest value, a 16x input module
uses only the 16 bits with the lowest value, etc.
You can use PLC configuration software from various manufacturers for the PLC configuration.
The descriptions in the following sections therefore focus on the basic procedure for configuring
the PLC.
You may require the "Browse and Config" tool to be able to address the bus coupler. The CD
R412018133, included on delivery, contains the "Browse and Config" tool. The tool can also
be downloaded online from the AVENTICS Media Center.
Configuration error!
An incorrect valve system configuration can cause malfunctions in and damage to the overall
system.
The configuration may therefore only be carried out by qualified personnel (see section 2.4
"Personnel qualifications" on page 73).
Observe the specifications of the system owner as well as any restrictions resulting from
the overall system.
Observe the documentation of your configuration program.

Readying the PLC configuration keys

Because the electrical components in the valve zone are situated in the base plate and cannot
be identified directly, the PLC configuration keys for the valve zone and the I/O zone are required
to carry out the configuration.
You also need the PLC configuration key when the configuration is carried out in a different location
than that of the valve system.
Note down the PLC configuration key for the individual components in the following order:
– Valve side: The PLC configuration key is printed on the name plate on the right side of the valve
system.
– I/O modules: The PLC configuration key is printed on the top of the modules.
A detailed description of the PLC configuration key can be found in section 12.4 "PLC
configuration key" on page 115.

Loading the device description file

The XDD file with texts in English for the AES series bus coupler for Ethernet POWERLINK
is located on CD R412018133, included on delivery. The file can also be downloaded online from
the AVENTICS Media Center.
Each valve system is equipped with a bus coupler; some contain valves and/or I/O modules,
depending on your order. Basic settings for the module have been entered in the XDD file.
1. To configure the valve system PLC, copy the XDD file from CD R412018133 to the computer
containing the PLC configuration program.
