6.2.4.
Levelling the kiln
General description
Use a spirit level to check that the kiln is level. If it is not level, the production of flat and level glass objects, in
particular, will not be successful. In addition, the kiln casing can warp, the structure of the insulating material in the
firing chamber can be damaged, and the perfect sealing of the lid cannot be guaranteed when it is closed.
Levelling the kiln
Step
Description
1
After the kiln is positioned, open the lid and use a level to check that the kiln floor is level.
To do this, position the spirit level across, lengthways and diagonally on the kiln floor in the firing
2
chamber. The kiln floor must be absolutely level in all directions.
3
If the kiln floor is not level in all directions, you should level it.
If the kiln stand does not have castors, the unevenness can be compensated for with thin sheet
4
metal strips.
If the kiln stand has castors, the unevenness can be compensated for by inserting thin sheet metal
5
strips or washers between the castors and the mounting plates on the underside of the kiln.
