Setting parameters for the empty firing:
Parameter
Heating rate
End temperature
Soak time
The following special features apply to empty firings:
• Before firing empty, vacuum out the firing chamber. Do not touch the quartz glass tubes of the infrared
heaters (heating elements). Dust and debris can shorten the life of the heating elements.
• Carry out the empty firing without ware.
• The longer the soak period, the better it is for the service life of the heating elements.
• After empty firing, allow the kiln to cool down naturally with the lid closed. This process can take several
hours and helps extend the life of the kiln.
9.3.
Room ventilation at the operating location
⇒ Sufficient room ventilation (supply and exhaust air) at the operating location must be ensured.
⇒ This can be done with window ventilation. It must be ensured that the window is always open during the
firing process (attach a window contact switch).
⇒ If window ventilation is not possible, room ventilation should be ensured via a separate ventilation system.
⇒ The heat loss from the kiln casing should be taken into account when designing the room ventilation (supply
air and exhaust air).
⇒ Ask a ventilation technician about this.

General safety information
DANGER
Risk of physical injury!
Hot surface & harmful infrared radiation.
Danger of personal injury when touching or approaching the view port due to burning or
scalding, especially of the eyes (infrared radiation/traction).
9.4.2.
General information
⇒ Keep your face or eyes at least 40 cm away from the exhaust air opening or (optional) view port.
⇒ Do not reach or insert objects into the view port.
⇒ If necessary, only look briefly through the view port and use protective goggles suitable for infrared
radiation. Only use goggles that specifically protect against infrared radiation.
⇒ Unauthorised persons must not be near the view port while the kiln is hot.
⇒ Note a possible draught effect at the view port.
⇒ If the kiln has two or more view ports, only one may be opened at a time.
