Connect the fan electrically
1. Switch off power supply circuits, position a visible
sign warning against being accidentally switched
back on.
2. Open terminal box, route cables into terminal box
and screw down with cable feedthrough. Note
tightening torques (in Nm). Check tightness and
tighten if necessary.

Insulate exposed wire ends not needed.
Earthing of fan and duct system
1. Connect PE conductor at mains end in terminal
box with explosion protection.
2. Connect PE conductor duct system to terminal on
outside of fan.
Direction of rotation and air flow
1. Check direction of rotation and air flow  Arrows
on fan housing. Maximum flow rate at stated air
flow direction according to Fig. D. If the air direc-
tion flow is reversed, the flow rate is reduced
by around 35 %.

towards impeller
2. To reverse air flow direction, swap external
conductors L2 and L3. If the air flow direction is
reversed, check the safety and function of the
system again. Note that this may result in:
● the flow rate being reduced
● protection against foreign bodies being drawn
in no longer being guaranteed
● the explosive atmosphere no longer being
extracted and
● the fan not being thermally configured for
continuous operation (operating mode S1), i.e.
not for frequent changes in direction of rotation.
The fan motor may heat up impermissibly if the
direction of rotation is changed frequently.
PTC thermistor triggering device, on/off switch
1. Install PTC thermistor triggering device and wire
in accordance with wiring diagram ( wiring
diagram, Fig. E, terminals 4, 5 and 6). Recom-
mendation: Only install MAICO MVS 6 outside
areas subject to explosion hazards.
2. Fit an On/Off switch provided by the customer.
Checking electrical connection
1. Perform the following checks: D = detailed check,
N = close inspection, S = visual inspection

cross-sections are sufficient).

2. Fit terminal box cover for explosion protection.
Ensure that there are no dirt particles in the
terminal box and that the seal of the terminal box
cover has close contact all the way around the
terminal box. Note tightening torques of
1.4 Nm. Check seal integrity of terminal box.

Checking correct functioning
1. Switch on unit and perform the following checks
according to the test schedule:
Test schedule
I Direction of rotation / air flow
direction
II Ensure correct power consumption
The rating current ( rating plate)
may be higher or lower depending
on local conditions (duct distance,
altitude, temperatures). I
exceeded at nominal voltage due
to ageing or a reduction in terminal
voltage (e.g. transformer).
III Thermal safety is ensured by the
PTC thermistor triggering device.
19 Cleaning, maintenance
Perform repeat checks (cleaning and mainte-
nance intervals) for ventilation systems in ac-
cordance with BetrSichV 2015 at least annually.
Only an electrician trained in explosion protec-
tion may undertake cleaning and maintenance.
The intervals should be determined by the operating
company in accordance with EN 60079-17 and may
be extended if a sufficient maintenance concept is
used – frequency depending on ambient conditions
and anticipated restrictions. Shorten the mainte-
nance intervals in the event of dust or a corrosive
atmosphere.
DANGER
!
Danger from electric shock. Before accessing
the connection terminals, release all power supply
circuits, protect against switching on again, ensure
unit is de-energised, earth and connect the EARTH
with active parts which are to be short-circuited,
and cover or make inaccessible adjacent energised
parts. Attach warning sign in clearly visible place.
Ensure that there is no explosive atmosphere.
CAUTION
!
Hot motor surfaces may result in skin burns if

S
touched. Do not touch hot motor surfaces. Wait
until the motor has cooled before undertaking
cleaning and maintenance work.
!
CAUTION
Danger of injury if there is no protection
against reaching / contact (protective grille) on
the uncovered air inlet/outlet. Fan may only be
operated with protection against reaching in
both sides.
NOTICE: Damage to the unit
Units with pre-installed line feedthrough to the
terminal box may be damaged if the connec-
tion line is pulled or the unit is lifted using the
line. Do not pull connection lines or lift the unit
using the lines.
Cleaning by electrician trained in explosion
protection
Regularly clean fan at appropriate intervals with
a damp cloth, especially after long periods out of
service.
Clean fan at shorter intervals if you expect layers
of dust to accumulate on the impeller and other
parts of the fan.
