DANGER
!
Danger from unit falling if transporting with
unauthorised transport equipment.
Do not stand under a suspended load.
Note weight and centre of gravity (centre). Ob-
serve the maximum permitted loading capacity for
lifting gear and means of transport. For total weight
 rating plate on title page.
During transport do not place load on sensitive
components, such as impeller or terminal box. Fit
transport equipment correctly.
CAUTION
!
Risk of cuts from metal housing plates
with sharp edges.
Wear personal protective equipment (cut-
resistant gloves) for installation.
● Only ship unit in original packaging.
● DZD .. Ex e with 2 robust transport lugs for trans-
port by crane.
● Store unit in dry location (-25 to +55 °C).

16 Mounting
During mounting, note the applicable installation re-
quirements  especially EU Directive 1999/92/EC,
EN 60079-14 and VDE 0100 (in Germany).
Mounting instructions
NOTICE: Damage to the unit
Units with pre-installed line feedthrough to the
terminal box may be damaged if the connec-
tion line is pulled or the unit is lifted using the
line. Do not pull connection lines or lift the unit
using the lines.
Wall-mounted fans DZQ .. Ex e and DZS .. Ex e
● For permanent installation in wall or ceiling with
sufficient load-bearing capacity.
● Any installation position.
● Can be switched to ventilation or air extraction.
● Only mount unit on a level wall / ceiling surface to
avoid warping of the wall plate or wall ring.
DZR .. duct fans Ex e
● For permanent installation in ducts with folded
spiral-seams ducts suited to the unit type (nomi-
nal size). Mounting on a wall, ceiling or bracket of
sufficient load-bearing capacity.
● Any installation position.
● Can be switched to ventilation or air extraction.
● To avoid the transmission of vibrations to the duct
system, we recommend mounting type EL-Ex
and ELAEx flexible couplings, FU mounting foot
and GP vibration dampers from MAICO.
DZD .. roof fans Ex e
● They may be used on roofs (flat, inclined, corru-
gated or trapezoidal roofs), ceilings or brackets
with sufficient load-bearing capacity.
● Horizontal installation position required. Horizon-
tal air outlet direction.
● Can be switched to ventilation or air extraction.
● Can be mounted with roof flashing on suitable
roof socket or surface, e.g. with MAICO roof
socket SO.., SDS.. or SOWT..
● If connecting to ventilation ducts, folded spiral-
seams ducts with flexible couplings, feet and
vibration dampers are specified. These prevent
the transmission of vibrations to the duct system.
Checks before mounting
1. Perform the following checks: D = detailed
check, N = close inspection, S = visual inspection

motor bearing is working properly.
Unit mounting
1. Check unit for transport damage.
2. Make a breakthrough at the installation location.
Make sure there is a level support surface.
3. Lay a permitted power cable to the installation
location. Use a connection cable suited to the
unit type.

4. DZR.. Ex e: Secure appropriate mounting foot
(type FU) to fan housing with self-cutting tapping
screws provided. Any installation position. Make
sure that there is free access to terminal box at
the installation location.
5. DZQ/DZS/DZR/DZD .. Ex e: Transport fan to
installation location. Note safety instructions and
data in chapters 12 to 15. If possible position

ening and installation material between the unit
and roof/roof socket.

load-bearing capacity and sufficiently dimensioned
mounting material.

7. Install fan and screw down securely to wall/ceil-
ing/roof/roof socket at all flange holes [X] (4...16
holes, depending on type). Mounting material
of the sufficient size should be provided by the
customer. Note direction of rotation and air flow
 air direction arrows on unit sticker.
8. Mount DZR.. Ex e with pre-fitted mounting foot
to wall, ceiling or bracket. Mounting material
of the sufficient size should be provided by the
customer.
9. DZR/DZD .. Ex e: Connect ventilation ducts.
Securely screw down folded spiral-seams ducts
to all fan flange holes with flexible cuffs or flex-
ible couplings (MAICO types EL-Ex / ELA-Ex).
Ensure seal integrity.
10. Check air gap between impeller and housing.
DZQ ../DZS ..: Check air gap between impeller
and housing after mounting with the gauge
provided  Fig. A1, table.
S
DANGER
!
Explosion hazard when operating without pro-
tective device should foreign bodies fall or be
drawn into the air channel  Risk of death due
to spark formation. Use an approved protective
grille to protect the impeller from contact, anything
falling in and foreign bodies being sucked into the
air channel .
11. If the air inlet or outlet is not covered, mount a
permitted protective grille, e.g. MAICO protec-
tive grille SG... in front of the unit.
12. Ensure a sufficient fresh air supply intake.
13. Fit suitable insulation, sound-deadening and
installation material.
17 Electrical connection  Fig. E
DANGER
!
Danger from electric shock. Before accessing
the connection terminals, release all power supply
circuits, protect against switching on again, ensure
unit is de-energised, earth and connect the EARTH
with active parts which are to be short-circuited,
and cover or make inaccessible adjacent energised
parts. Attach warning sign in clearly visible place.
Ensure that there is no explosive atmosphere.
Operation only permitted:
● with permanent electrical installation.
● with connection cable permitted for explosion risk
areas and load.
● with mains disconnector with a contact opening
of at least 3 mm per pole.
● with shared non-metallic sheathed cable for mo-
tor voltage and PTC thermistor terminal.
● with permitted voltage and frequency
 rating plate.
● with explosion protection terminal box provided.
● with protective-conductor terminal, at mains end
in
terminal box. There is a terminal on the outside
of the fan
for earthing the duct system.
● if operating in intended air power range.
● at permitted operating point. The current and
power stated on the rating plate are measured
with free suction and free blow-out. They may be
higher or lower depending on the operating point.
A PTC thermistor triggering device is essen-
i
tial for thermal fusing. Only undertake speed
control with transformer matched to type,
e.g. with MAICO TR... Exception: DZ.. 35/2 B
Ex e does not offer speed control.
i
DZD .. Ex e: Fit service switch on roof directly
at installation location.
