5. Cleaning, Care and Disinfection
CAUTION: when cleaning the valves, care must be taken to
ensure that the silicone membrane is not damaged.
5.1 Cleaning and Care
The speaking valve must be cleaned thoroughly after each use.
Thoroughly rinse the valve with warm (but not hot) water and mild
soap or detergent. Make sure that the speaking valve is fully dried.
You may use a hair drier that is set to room temperature for drying.
CAUTION: TRACOE speaking valves must not be heated above
60 °C. The valve must not be cleaned with household or dental
cleaning agents, hot water, peroxide, bleach, vinegar or alcohol,
because these substances may impair the correct functioning of the
valve. Do not heat up, boil or steam-sterilise the speaking valves.
5.2 Disinfection
Because the upper respiratory tract is never without germs – even in
healthy individuals – we do not recommend the use of disinfectants.
If, however, disinfection appears necessary, TRACOE medical can
provide, upon request, a list of tested disinfectants
The disinfected valve should then be rinsed very thoroughly
with distilled water and dried.
CAUTION: Under no circumstances use disinfectants that
release chlorine or substances that contain strong alkalis or
phenol derivatives.
6. Duration of Use, Storage
Depending on how well it is looked after, the TRACOE phon assist I
valve may be used for up to 6 months. We recommend that at least
one spare valve is kept available. Even if valves are only slightly dam-
aged, they must be replaced immediately. Unused valves should
always be kept in a clean, dry condition in a clean ventilated
container.
Storage: The products must be stored in a cool and dry location.
Temporary storage for ≤ 30 days at ≤ +50 °C is possible. Protect the
product from sunlight and extreme cold.
