In the base section of REF 650-SO and REF 650-TO/-TO-C, an
oxygen supply port is provided in the form of a male Luer connector.
This can either be connected to an oxygen supply using a connect-
ing tube (REF 702) or closed using the occlusion cap supplied.
The phon assist I valves (REF 650-S and REF 650-SO) form an
exact and air-tight seal with their base plates, both with the neck
plate of the TRACOE grid and stoma buttons (REF 601 ff.) and with
the cylindrical holder of the TRACOE adhesive carrier (REF 660).
The phon assist I valves (REF 650-T, REF 650-TO, REF 650-TO-C)
each have a female adaptor for a 15 mm connector and therefore
fit on all normal commercial tubes with 15 mm connectors.

Indications/Contraindications
3.1
Indications
TRACOE phon assist I valves are used for tracheotomized, awake
patients with a completely or partly extant larynx and (at least par-
tially present) deglutition abilities. They can be used in combination
with a stoma button, grid button, adhesive carrier or a fenestrated
tracheostomy tube with a 15 mm connector and allow the patient to
speak. The valves can also be used when weaning the patient from
a tracheostomy tube.
3.2
Contraindications
TRACOE phon assist I valves may under no circumstances be
used in patients after complete removal of the larynx; this also
applies to patients, who have been fitted with a voice prosthe-
sis. Use of the valves when the tracheostomy tube is blocked
is contraindicated.
If TRACOE phon assist I valves are used in combination with trache-
ostomy tubes, they should preferably be used with fenestrated
tubes without a cuff. When used with fenestrated tubes with cuffs,
the cuff must always be fully deflated.
CAUTION: TRACOE phon assist I valves must be removed
when sleeping at night.
4.
Use of TRACOE phon assist I Valves
4.1
Insertion and Removal of the Valve
Insertion of the REF 650-S and REF 650-SO into the TRACOE grid
or stoma button should preferably be completed before introducing
the button into the tracheostoma; in view of the simplicity and ease
of this operation, the valve may, however, also be inserted in the
