1. Select Set-GAS-cat .
The display alternates between the current value and
the menu item.
2. Tap [OK].
The next steps are carried out on the sensor.

80% is displayed on the gas detector.
4. Remove the magnetic wand.
The sensor switches to an output signal that
represents the current gas category:
Output signal 20 %LEL: Gas category methane
Output signal 40 %LEL: Gas category propane
Output signal 60 %LEL: Gas category ethene
(ethylene)
5. This output signal is set for 30 seconds. Within this time
period, the next gas can be selected by placing the
magnetic wand on the area marked with the symbol
The sensor output signal then switches to the value
that corresponds to the newly selected gas category. If
no further entries are made with the magnetic wand for
more than 30 seconds, the setting is saved.
6. Check span adjustment on the gas detector (see
"Performing a span adjustment", page 18)
13.2.3 Setting the sensor type
This function defines the installed sensor type.

The display alternates between the current value and
the menu item.
2. Tap [OK].
The value flashes (data entry mode).
3. Tap [UP] / [DOWN] to scroll through the sensor types.

13.3 Sensor settings Polytron
13.3.1 Setting the LEL type (Polytron 5700 only)
Selecting a different LEL type converts the A1 and A2 alarm
level target values from internal units of ppm to equivalent
values in display units using the new LEL factor and the
existing units of the gas measurements.
The LEL (lower explosive limit) is an empirically determined
value for the gas concentration at which ignition can take
place. This value varies depending on the authority that has
defined it (example: 100 %LEL for methane is 5 Vol%
according to NIOSH and 4.4 Vol% according to IEC and PTB).
Set the LEL type as follows:
1. Select LEL - type.
The display alternates between the current value and
the menu item.
2. Tap [OK].
The value flashes (data entry mode).

13.3.2 Setting the target gas
Only for Polytron 5700 IR
The target gas can be selected from a list of up to 100 gases
and vapors in the gas library of the PIR 7000. See the
instructions for use of the PIR 7000 (9023885) for the list.
Set the target gas as follows:
1. Select Gas - set.
The display alternates between the current value and
the menu item.
2. Tap [OK].
The value flashes (data entry mode).
3. Tap [UP] / [DOWN] to scroll through the gas library.
