Operation
7.3
Readings on the display
7.3.1 Measuring mode
The following display example shows the Polytron 5100 EC.
Display example
Description
In measuring mode, the measured
gas concentration and the unit of
measurement are shown on the dis-
play.
7.3.2 Special states
If the instrument is in a special state, correct measurement or
alarm activation can no longer be guaranteed.
This occurs if
– the gas concentration exceeds the measuring range.
– a fault occurs.
– alarms are deactivated.
– adjustments are carried out.
– bump tests are carried out.
– a sensor is in the warm-up phase.
– the system is in maintenance mode.
For the current of the analog interface corresponding to the
analog signal, see 15.2.
Display example
Description
Value above measuring range
The gas concentration is above the
measuring range of the sensor.
Analog interface: Over range
Relays: A2 relay switch
Value below measuring range
The gas concentration is below the
measuring range of the sensor.
Analog interface: Drift below zero
Relays: Fault relay switch
Fault display
An error has been detected.
The display alternates between Err
and the error number.
Analog interface: Fault signal
Relays: Fault relay switch
Warning display
A warning has been detected.
The display alternates between Info
and the warning number.
Analog interface: Maintenance sig-
nal
Relays: Fault relay switch

Display example
Description
Warm-up phase Polytron 5xx0
except for Polytron 5100 EC
Analog interface: Maintenance sig-
nal
Relays: Fault relay switch
The fault relay does not switch during
warm-up phase 2.
Warm-up phase Polytron 5100 EC
Time in minutes until the warm-up is
finished or time in minutes until
adjustment is possible.
Analog interface: Maintenance sig-
nal
Relays: Fault relay switch
The fault relay does not switch during
warm-up phase 2.
1) The fault relay behavior can be configured for warm-up phase 1 (see
"Configuring the fault relay for the warm-up time", page 23).
7.3.3 Ending special states
Error display / warning display
Error displays and warning displays are usually non-latching.
As soon as the causes of the errors or warnings have been
rectified, no more error or warning is displayed.
To eliminate the causes, display the error or warning (see
"Displaying fault codes", page 22) and start troubleshooting
(see "Troubleshooting", page 19).
Value exceeds/falls below the measuring range
The display indicates that the gas concentration is beyond the
measuring range of the sensor. The information on the display
disappears as soon as the gas concentration is back within
the measuring range. After an over range occurrence, the
sensitivity and response time of the sensor may deteriorate.
NOTICE
Sensor malfunction
Gas concentrations outside the sensor's measuring range can
cause the sensor to malfunction.
► Recalibrate the sensor if necessary.
Polytron 5200 CAT with DQ sensor:
An over range occurrence must be confirmed with [OK] once
it has been verified that the gas concentration is below
100 %LEL (e.g. using a portable gas detector).

Menus
7.4.1 General information
Menu items alternate between their full name and their setting
(e.g. A1 - Set - 16.9). Value and setting options flash if they
can be edited (data entry mode).
After 15 minutes of inactivity in the menu, the instrument
pauses and returns to measuring mode without applying any
changes. After 14 minutes, the three icons start to flash.
An overview of the menu can be found in the appendix.
