10.1 Sensor replacement
WARNING
Faulty Calibration
Faulty Calibration may cause inaccurate readings.
► If the sensor is replaced, all settings and parameters must
be checked for correctness.
► Check calibration to verify proper operation.
SNR - LOCK function
®
Polytron
5100 EC-specific:
If a sensor with a different part number has been installed, the
display alternates between SNR and LOCK. When the
installed sensor is confirmed, the factory settings of the
sensor are loaded.
®
Polytron
57x0 IR-specific:
If a different sensor model has been installed (334, 340 or
CO
), the display alternates between SNR and LOCK. When
2
the sensor is adopted, its factory settings are loaded.
To accept a sensor
● Tap and hold [OK]
 The instrument counts down from 5 to make sure that
the sensor has not been adopted accidentally.

10.1.1 Polytron
5100 EC
A sensor can be replaced in the hazardous, classified area,
without interrupting the power supply.
Replacing the sensor
See Figure C on the fold-out page.
In principle, the sensor can be changed at any time.
1. If necessary, output the maintenance signal for the analog
interface: Open the menu. The maintenance signal is then
automatically output on the analog interface.
2. Replace the old sensor with a new one:
a. Loosen the threaded pin (2).
b. Unscrew the bayonet ring (3).
c. Insert the sensor (4) in the opening and turn until it
engages in the gas detector. This does not damage
the sensor connector.
d. Secure the sensor with the bayonet ring (3).
e. Tighten the threaded pin (2) so that the bayonet ring
cannot come loose (required for installations in
zone 22).
 The warm-up phase begins.
 The maintenance signal on the 4 to 20 mA interface
remains until the sensor has warmed up.
Maximum warm-up time of a new sensor: see
instructions for use of the sensor.
3. If necessary, attach the label included with the sensor to
the instrument. This means that even in the event of a
power failure, the type of gas being measured can be
recognized from a distance.
4. Check the adjustment. Adjust the instrument as necessary
(see "Calibration", page 15).

Replacing the sensor
1. If necessary, output the maintenance signal for the analog
interface: Open the menu. The maintenance signal is then
automatically output on the analog interface.
2. For instruments with relays, de-energize the relay cables.
3. Switch off the power supply to the instrument or declassify
the area in accordance with local regulations.
4. Loosen the threaded pin and unscrew the housing cover
from the instrument.
5. Pull out the printed circuit board unit.
6. Turn the printed circuit board unit over and unplug the
sensor connector.
7. Unscrew the sensor.
8. Insert the wires of the new sensor through the threaded
connector into the housing.
WARNING
Explosion hazard!
The openings of the housing must be sealed to prevent
ignition of hazardous atmosphere in the event of ignition in the
housing.
► Five thread turns must engage in order to ensure the
explosion protection.
9. Screw in the sensor and tighten with the correct tightening
torque.
®
10. Polytron
5200 CAT-specific:
Twist the sensor cables together. If necessary, use a cable
tie to hold the cables tightly together.
11. Insert the sensor connector into the corresponding
bushing on the printed circuit board unit.

12. Insert the printed circuit board unit in the lower part of the
housing.
13. Screw the housing cover onto the lower part of the
housing and tighten with the correct torque.
14. Tighten the threaded pin.
15. If necessary, turn on the power supply to the instrument.
 The warm-up phase begins.

57x0 IR-specific:
If the settings of the new sensor differ from the settings in
the instrument, the display alternates between 'Info' and
