Interface settings
1. A1 - ris / FALL or A2 - ris / FALL .
 The display alternates between the current value and
the menu item.
2. Tap [OK].
 The value flashes (data entry mode).
3. Set the alarm direction.
● Tap [UP] for falling (FALL).
● Tap [DOWN] for rising (ris).
4. Confirm with [OK].
 The value is set and the menu is displayed again.
Setting latching or non-latching alarm
Latching (Lat)
When an alarm level is reached, the instru-
ment triggers the alarm. It will remain in the
alarm status even if the gas concentration
no longer meets the alarm condition. To
clear a latching alarm, it must be acknowl-
edged.
Non-latching
The alarm status clears if the gas concen-
(nLat)
tration no longer meets the alarm condition.
Select
1. A1 - Lat / nLat or A2 - Lat / nLat .
 The display alternates between the current value and
the menu item.
2. Tap [OK].
 The value flashes (data entry mode).
3. Set the latch mode.
● Tap [UP] for non-latching (nLat).
● Tap [DOWN] for latching (Lat).
4. Confirm with [OK].
 The value is set and the menu is displayed again.
Setting acknowledgeable or non-acknowledgeable alarm
Acknowledge-
The alarm relay and LED can be reset
able (ACK)
before the alarm condition clears.
Non-acknowl-
The alarm relay and LED cannot be reset
edgeable
until the alarm condition clears.
(nACK)
1. A1 - ACK / nACK or A2 - ACK / nACK .
 The display alternates between the current value and
the menu item.
2. Tap [OK].
 The value flashes (data entry mode).
3. Set the acknowledgement mode.
● Tap [UP] for non-acknowledgeable (nACK).
● Tap [DOWN] for acknowledgeable (ACK).
4. Confirm with [OK].
 The value is set and the menu is displayed again.

11.6 Testing alarms/relays
These functions change the status of a relay and LED for test
purposes (e.g. to check the function of alarm devices
connected to the relay). After exiting this function, the status
of the relay and LED will automatically return to their previous
status.
1. Select the desired alarm condition.
A1 - test
Simulates pre-alarm
A2 - test
Simulates main alarm
FAIL - test
Simulates fault signal
 The display toggles between the current value and the
menu item.
2. Tap [OK]
 The value flashes (data entry mode)
3. Set the test alarm.
● Tap [UP] to activate the test alarm (ON).
● Tap [DOWN] to deactivate the test alarm (OFF).
4. Tapping [OK] deactivates the test alarm and the
instrument returns to the menu.

Interface settings
12.1 4-20mA interface
The current output of the instrument in measuring mode is
between 4 and 20 mA and is proportional to the measured
gas concentration.
The instrument uses different current values to display
different modes of operation. The user can change the factory
settings for application-specific requirements. This
corresponds to the NAMUR recommendations NE43.
12.1.1 Full scale deflection
Only for the Polytron 5100 EC and the Polytron 57x0 IR
Some sensors have an adjustable full scale deflection to limit
the measuring range for the 4 to 20 mA interface.
The full scale deflection is used to determine an end point
within the measuring range of the sensor. If the gas
concentration reaches this end point, the 4 to 20 mA interface
transmits 20 mA.
Example: Required range 0 to 500 ppm CO (e.g. part number
6809605 standard 300 ppm, min./max. range =
50/1000 ppm). Select a full scale deflection of 500 ppm. The
analog signal is output linearly between 4 mA = 0 ppm and
20 mA = 500 ppm.
For information on setting the full scale deflection, see the
section 13.1.
