17. Check the adjustment. Adjust the instrument as necessary
(see "Calibration", page 15).
10.2 Displaying fault codes
This function is only available for the Polytron 5100 EC and
the Polytron 57x0 IR.
The function is used for detailed troubleshooting in the
instrument. If fault codes are present, contact DrägerService
for more information or to resolve the fault.
Fault code can be accessed as follows:
● In measuring mode, tap and hold [UP] for longer than
3 seconds.
or
● Select Diag - scan in the menu and tap [OK].
If no fault codes are available, OK is displayed.
If fault codes are available, tap [DOWN] to scroll
through them.
OK is displayed after the final fault code.
10.3 Checking the response time (t90)
1. Perform a span adjustment and check the response time.
2. Check the response time and compare it with the t90
value indicated in the corresponding sensor data sheet.
CAUTION
Delayed response time at the gas detection controller.
If the gas detector is connected to controllers, the total
response time may be delayed. The entire measurement path
must be taken into account (e.g., latency of the controller).
► Ensure that the required response time is kept.

Instrument settings
11.1 Setting a password
Only numbers from 0 to 9 are permitted for the password.
1. Select PASS set and tap [OK].
"0000" is displayed and the first zero flashes.
2. Tap [UP] / [DOWN] to increase or decrease this number,
then tap [OK].
The second digit flashes.
3. Repeat the process for the remaining digits and tap [OK].
The value is set and the menu is displayed again.
11.2 Switching the display on/off
Use this function to switch off the display in measuring mode.
The functionality of the instrument is not affected by the
display status.
If the display is switched off and an alarm occurs, the red LED
flashes and the display switches on automatically. The current
gas concentration is displayed.

If the display is switched off and an error occurs, the yellow
LED lights up and the display switches on automatically. The
reading on the display alternates between "Err" and a specific
number.
1. Tap [DOWN] to open the menu.
2. Select LCD .
The display alternates between the current value and
the menu item.
3. Tap [OK].
The value flashes (data entry mode).
4. Set the display status:
● Tap [UP] to activate the display (ON).
● Tap [DOWN] to deactivate the display (OFF).
5. Confirm with [OK].
The value is set and the menu is displayed again.
11.3 Setting 2-wire/3-wire configuration
(Polytron 5100 EC only)
Polytron 5100 EC can be operated in a 2-wire or 3-wire
configuration.
The 2-wire configuration changes the operating mode. It
disables options that use a large amount of power. The
following options are not available in the 2-wire configuration:
– Operation as current source
– Display with backlight
– Use of a remote sensor (except when operated at 24 V or
higher)
– Relays
– Signaling with LEDs
CAUTION
Possible transmitter malfunction!
► It must be ensured that the setting for this function
matches the cable connection for the power supply and
signal.
► After changing the configuration and returning to
measuring mode, turn the instrument power supply off and
on again.
1. Select Set 2-3 .
The display alternates between the current value and
the menu item.
2. Tap [OK].
The value flashes (data entry mode).
3. Set the configuration.
● Tap [UP] for 2-wire configuration (2-on).
● Tap [DOWN] for 3-wire configuration (3-on).
4. Confirm with [OK].
5. Tap [UP] until you have exited the menu.
6. Turn the instrument power supply off and on again, and
make sure that the setting for this function matches the
cable connection for the power supply and signal.
