9.4 PROTOCOL FOR CLEANING / DISINFECTING / STERILIZING / STORING THE TURBINE HOSE
The turbine supply hose must be disconnected from the pneumatic turbine and console, cleaned, disinfected,
dried and sterilized after every use.
ACTIONS
1. Cleaning
• Clean the outside of the turbine supply hose with a lint-
free cloth dampened with a disinfecting solution.
2. Disinfection
• Disinfect the outside of the turbine supply hose with a
disinfectant (disinfectant spray or pad).
3. Rinsing and drying
• Rinse the outside of the turbine supply hose with a
disposable lint-free cloth soaked in sterile water.
• Dry the turbine supply hose with a disposable lint-free
cloth.
4. Sterilization
• Sterilize the turbine supply hose in the autoclave
(134°C – 273°F) for 18 minutes.
Sterilization in USA only: sterilize with an autoclave
(steam sterilizer with a vacuum phase) at a minimum of
132°C for at least 4 minutes.
• Remove it from the sterilizer immediately after the
sterilization procedure.
• Dry the turbine supply hose meticulously after
sterilization with a disposable lint-free cloth.
5. Storage
• Store the turbine supply hose in a dry, dust-free
environment.

ACTIONS
1. Double cleaning
• After taking it out of the block, immerse the device
immediately in an aldehyde-free detergent-disinfectant
solution (eg: Alkazyme
least 15 minutes in accordance with the manufacturer's
instructions.
• Clean by hand (or by machine provided that the
machine does not recycle the cleaning products) after
disassembling if necessary.
• Rinse with water.
• Immerse in an aldehyde-free disinfectant-detergent
solution (different bath from the previous).
• Clean by hand (or by machine provided that the
machine does not recycle the cleaning products).
• Rinse with filtered or osmotic water.
• Dry the device with a single-use, lint-free non-woven
soft cloth.
2. Sterilization
• Sterilize with an autoclave (steam sterilizer) at a minimum
of 134°C – 273°F for 18 minutes sterilization plateau.
• Sterilization in USA only: sterilize with an autoclave
(steam sterilizer with a vacuum phase) at a minimum of
132°C for at least 4 minutes.

• To prevent the turbine supply hose from deforming, it is
important to coil it carefully in its box (Photo L).

• IMPORTANT: Change the bath water after every use.
• Incompatibility:
o Do not use bleach.
o Do not use this protocol for products made of
aluminum alloy.
• Do not use this protocol on heat-sensitive
microkeratomes (motor and turbine).
• Inactivation of Non-Conventional Transmissible
Agents (NCTA) only for patients at risk for Creutzfeld-
