3. Assemble the head of the CB turbine
3.1 CBm-ALTK: the CB turbine screws onto the head. Hold
the head firmly by its two lateral faces and screw the CB
turbine clockwise using finger strength only.
3.2 CBSU for artificial chamber: Holding the head in the
blister, screw it onto the turbine. After assembly, remove
the head from the blister and moisten it with physiological
serum or any other appropriate ophthalmic solution.
4. Carefully inspect the head after assembling
• Carefully inspect the blade using a microscope under
high magnification to ensure that it is not damaged. If it is,
discard it into an appropriate container and replace it.
5. Connect the supply hose to the CB turbine and
console
• Connect the supply hose to the rear of the CB pneumatic
turbine. The shape of the connector only allows it to
be connected in one way (the two orifices are different
dimensions). Screw it in using finger strength only.
• Connect the turbine supply hose connector to the front
of the console. The shape of the connector only allows it
to be connected in one way (the two orifices are different
dimensions). Screw it in using finger strength only.
6. Check the oscillation of the blade
• Activate the vacuum then the turbine to check that the
blade is properly engaged and oscillates correctly.
For anterior lamellar grafts (preparation of the recipient eye)
7. Select the suction ring then inspect it
• The rings need to have been sterilized in accordance with
the recommendations in this user guide.
• Select the appropriate suction ring (4 sizes available). The
size of the ring determines the size of the cut.
8. Connect the suction ring to the vacuum tube
• Connect the suction ring to the vacuum tube
• Position the ring on the eye
• Activate the vacuum and check that the ring is properly
centered and that the eye is held by the suction.
9. Select the flattening lens then check the size of the
resection
• The flattening lenses (transparent and mounted on
a sleeve) contain two reticles indicating two different
diameters. They are used with the suction rings to check
the size of the resection obtained with the CBm-ALTK
head.
• Select the theoretically appropriate lens for the ring used.
• Change the size of ring, if necessary, to suit the size of the
resection. Check again using the lenses.
• Before any use, check that the CB
turbine is clean and in working order.
• Check that the head is solidly screwed
into the CB turbine. The head must not
be able to move once mounted.
• If the head is not correctly screwed
to the CB turbine, the blade will not
oscillate. A faulty cut may result from
incorrect assembly.
• The head must be perfectly clean and
present no debris, particle, oxidation,
deposit or scuffmark.
• Check that the gaskets are present,
as well as their appearance, on the
connector on the CB pneumatic turbine
and on the connector on the console.
• Check the integrity of the hose (not
cracked, pinched, etc.). Replace it if
necessary.
• Make sure that the tubing does not
develop a kink.
• See the user guide for the console
used before using it and the user guide
for artificial chamber (#65009).
• Do not use the turbine if the blade does
not oscillate smoothly and continuously.
• The suction rings must be carefully
checked before every use. They must
be perfectly clean, and present no
debris, particle, oxidation, deposit or
scuffmark.
• Carefully check the vacuum
connection. If obstructed, use another
ring.
• Do not use CBSU heads on the
recipient eye (because they do not
permit a complete resection).
• The single-use vacuum tube (#19138)
is supplied sterile.
• Check that the packaging is not
damaged or open and that the use-by
date has not expired.
• Inspect the vacuum tube. If it is
damaged or obstructed, use another
vacuum tube.
• The flattening lenses must be carefully
checked before every use. They must
be perfectly clean, and must present
no debris, particle, oxidation, deposit or
scuffmark.
• They need to have been
decontaminated and disinfected in
accordance with the recommendations
in this user guide.
