5.7.1 – REPLACING AND
ADJUSTING THE KNIVES
FIG.5.7.1A, 5.7.1B

IMPORTANT

Before adjusting or replacing the planer
knives, disconnect the machine
from the power mains by means of
the master switch and padlock this.
Indicate that work is in progress.
if necessary, wear light leather gloves
to protect the hands when handling
and adjusting tools fig. 5.7.1A
On this machine, only tools in conformity
with EN 847-1: 1997 standard must be
used. They must be marked MAN
To replace knives, proceed as indicated
below:
stop the machine by means of the
master switch, and padlock this.
overturn the surface planing tables
(this operation prevents the machine
from being started as it is protected
by the interlock device on versions
CE/CSA)
use the 7 mm wrench to tighten the
bolts that loosen the gib: the spring
will push the knife out. Remember to
replace the retention bolt as soon as
the corners are blunt.
IMPORTANT !
The knife retention gibs are marked
A, B, C on the planer spindle. Each
gib must always be repositioned in the
seat marked with the same letter.
before fitting the new, sharpened
knife, clean the cable that
accommodates the spring and gib
in sequence, reposition the spring,
in the direction indicated. Then fit
the gib and knife back on following
the direction of the sharpening
angle, relating to the direction of
rotation of the spindle
the knives can be fitted back on and
adjusted by means of the knife-
adjuster provided with the machine
to begin with, the knives are
perfectly adjusted on the machine. It
is therefore possible to check
whether the brass pads of the knife-
adjusters are in the correct position.
the knife-adjusters must be rested
on the planer spindle, as shown in
fig. 5.7.1B. The knife must skim the
brass pad. Otherwise, the locknut
will have to be released and screw
will have to be tightened or
loosened to ensure the pad comes
into contact with the knife. This
operation must be performed on the
two stops of the knife-adjuster to
permit correct adjustment of the
knife-adjuster. The locknut must be
tightened to maintain the setting.
the fact that the knife-adjuster is
rested on the spindle makes it
possible to reposition the knife
perfectly.
IMPORTANT !
Check and make sure the knife does
not protrude by more than 1.1 mm
the knife-adjusters must be kept
steady with one hand, while the
other tightens the square-head
screws, starting with the two centre
screws
the four knives must be adjusted in
the same way
for safety and work quality reasons,
we suggest sharpening the knives
before the cutting-edge becomes
too blunt
IMPORTANT !
Always fit knives of the same series
and same height. The minimum usable
knife height is 15 mm.
