Note:
The exact contents of the printout are transmitted. In some cases a backslash ( \ ) should
be interpreted as a foreslash ( / ). For example, "mmo\L" is equivalent to
"mmol/L", and "mmo\L" is "mmol/L" in the transmitted results.
10.4 Installing the Abaxis Driver
This section describes how to install a software driver that enables the Piccolo Xpress analyzer to com-
municate with a Windows, Linux, or Macintosh computer. The analyzer installs on the computer as a
virtual communication port in the operating system.
10.4.1 Installing on a Windows PC
Installing the driver on a Windows PC requires the following:
Piccolo Xpress analyzer
PC with Windows operating system and a free USB port
Type A/Type B USB cable
Abaxis Driver CD (P/N 1100-7019)
Note:
Driver installation in Windows may require a user account with administrative privileges.
The screenshots in these instructions are from a typical Windows XP Professional installa-
tion. Some of these screens may vary in other versions of Windows.
Install the driver as follows.
Note:
Do not connect the analyzer to the PC or turn the analyzer on until specifically directed to
do so.
1.
Turn on the PC, and insert the Abaxis Driver CD into the PC's CD drive.
2.
Connect the USB cable to a Type A connector on the PC and to the uppermost USB connec-
tor (Type B) on the back of the analyzer.
3.
Turn on the analyzer. Wait for the PC to recognize the analyzer and start the Found New
Hardware Wizard — this may take a few minutes.
