8.2 Setting/testing the motor protection switch
The motor protection switch or the thermal relay must be set to the rated current (see the
pump nameplate):
– Operate the pump at maximum pumping power (gate fully open)
– Reduce the adjustment value of the relay until the relay responds (if the trigger position of
the relay is not reached, even at the lowest current, the relay must be replaced, because it
is defective or over-dimensioned in relation to the power consumption of the motor – after
replacement, repeat the adjustment procedure).
– Set the calibration pointer of the relay to the rated current (see the pump nameplate).
For additional information, refer to the operating instructions for the Biral
BS 5279/BS 5319 control units.

Maintenance, service and warranty
9.1
Maintenance and service
Before starting any maintenance work, always take the pump out of operation.
Completely switch off the mains voltage and secure it from being switched
back on again. Maintenance and service work may only be performed by
expert personnel trained by Biral.
9.2 Maintenance work
Before starting maintenance work, the inside and outside of the pump and all
components that are lifted out of the shaft must be thoroughly cleaned with
water. Avoid all contact between the pump medium and the hands and eyes (risk
of infection). We recommend that you wear protective clothing and gloves.
To guarantee correct operation, regular inspections must be carried out:
Every 200 - 300 operating hours:
Thoroughly clean the collecting shaft and float switches with water.
Check that the float switches can move freely.
Remove all solid objects.
Check whether the noise level and vibrations are unchanged compared to the optimum condi-
tions at initial commissioning.
Check whether the supply voltage is within the prescribed values (400 V +6%, -10%).
Use a clamp-on ammeter to check whether the power consumption is symmetrical over all
3 phases (mean value ±5%) and does not exceed the rated current on the nameplate.
Check the motor insulation. Disconnect the pump cable on the control side and use an
ohmmeter or insulation measuring device (test voltage 500 VDC) to measure the resistance
between the individual phases and the earth conductor. The default value is a minimum of
0.5 MΩ
