Side stand (fig. 31)
Important
Before lowering the side stand, make sure that the
bearing surface is hard and flat. Do not park on soft or
pebbled ground or on asphalt softened by the heat or the
motorcycle may fall over.
When parking in downhill road tracts, always park the
motorcycle with its rear wheel facing downhill.
To pull down the side stand, hold the motorcycle
handlebars with both hands and push down on the thrust
arm (1) with your foot until stand is fully extended. Lean
the motorcycle to the left until the stand contacts the
ground.
Warning
Do not sit on the motorcycle when it is supported on
the side stand.
To move the side stand to its rest position (horizontal
position), lean the motorcycle to the right while lifting the
thrust arm (1) with your foot.
Check the correct operation of the two return springs of
the stand - one spring is placed inside the other - and of the
stand sensor (2) that signals stand position to the Engine
Control Unit. This system is protected by a 3A fuse placed
at the side of the battery (see page 92).
Note
The engine can be started with the stand down if
neutral is engaged.
