Biaxially positive crystals:
The interference fringes move from the convex
to the concave side of the isogyres when the
compensator is operated.
Biaxially negative crystals:
The interference fringes move from the concave
to the convex side.

Polarizers damaged (discoloured) by powerful
light sources or dirty.
