4.1.6.2. Air filter maintenance RES 18 EC / RES 16 TEC

4.1.6.2.1. Air filter

The engine intake air is filtered by a replaceable element made of high density paper.
Check the air filter daily or before starting the generating set.
Check that the air filter system is not clogged and there is no debris accumulated around it. Ensure this part of the engine is kept
clean.
Check for loose or damaged components. Replace all damaged air filter components.
Note: If the engine is left to operate when an air filter component is loose or damaged, there is a risk that unfiltered air can enter
the engine and it will become prematurely worn and, eventually, break down.

4.1.6.2.1.1. Paper filter element maintenance

Apply the following procedure to replace the paper filter element as recommended in the maintenance schedule. Replace the paper
filter element more often if operating conditions are very dusty or full of particles.
1. Lift the generating set bonnet.
2. Unscrew the two retaining screws of the side panel.
3. Remove the side panel from the enclosure.
4. Move the main switch on the generating set to "OFF/RESET".
5. Isolate the battery charger from its electrical power supply.
6. Disconnect the generating set engine starter battery, negative (-) lead first.
7. Unscrew the knurled buttons mounting from the cover, then remove the cover.
8. Rotate the air filter latch counterclockwise to unlock, then remove the paper filter element.
Note: do not clean the paper filter element with compressed air or liquid as this completely destroys the filtering properties.
9. Check the air filter base and latch. Make sure it is secured and not damaged.
10. Refit the paper filter element onto the air filter base. Make sure the element is flat and properly seated.
11. Rotate the air filter latch clockwise, over the molded lip on the element.
12. Reinstall the air filter cover and secure it with the two knurled buttons.
