2.3.12 Controller configuration

The controller for each model of generating set is configured in the factory and the configuration does not, in principle, require any
modification. In configuration mode, the controller enables the system settings to be defined, as explained below. Follow the
instructions given below to check the configuration after installation and to modify it, if required, according to the values indicated in
figures 2.36 and 2.37.
The controller automatically exits configuration mode without saving the changes if no key has been touched for
approximately 1 minute.
The configuration procedure must be restarted from the beginning if the controller exits configuration mode before the selected
values have been saved.
Follow the instructions in figures 2.41 and 2.42 to switch to configuration mode if the engine is off, then select the following settings
individually. Use the up and down arrows (
Voltage/frequency torque ("Uu" code). Select the system voltage and frequency from the table in figure 2.36 or 2.37.
Note: This configuration sets the system's nominal voltage and frequency.
Generating set configuration ("Uc" code). This configuration sets the type of generating set: marine, backup or mobile.
Engine configuration ("Ec" code). The engine configuration must match the type of engine used by the generating set.
Advanced configuration mode ("Adnc" code). The advanced configuration mode is used to modify the type of data input, the
battery voltage and the communications setting. To switch to advanced configuration mode, press the up arrow when "Adnc" is
displayed on screen.
Type of engine data input ("Ed" code). This parameter defines the type of transmitter used by the generating set's engine.
Battery voltage ("Bt" code). This setting is used to select an engine starter battery voltage of either 12 or 24 VDC.
Communications setting ("Cn" code).
For RES 9.5 EC / RES 13 EC, this setting enables the user to adjust the controller so that it can communicate with optional
instruments and is only available with marine and mobile models. The RES 9.5 EC / RES 13 EC are factory set for no CAN
communications, Cn00.
For RES 18 EC / RES 12 TEC / RES 16 TEC, this setting is available on controllers with application code version 1.13 or higher.
The communication setting enables or disables J1939 communication and also disables or enables the sleep mode. When J1939
communication is enabled, the sleep mode is turned off to allow uninterrupted communication with a personal computer running
remote monitoring software. If remote monitoring is not used, the communication can be turned off, enabling the sleep mode which
causes the controller to power down after 48 hours of inactivity. The generating set main switch must be in AUTO for the sleep
mode to function.
The default setting for controllers with application code version 1.13 or higher is Cn01, communication on/sleep mode off.
Controllers with earlier application code versions have communication disabled and sleep mode enabled. The Cn setting is not
adjustable on these earlier versions.
Note: To check the application code version number, HOLD the select button while moving the generating set main switch to RUN.
The engine will not start when the select button is held. Wait about 5 seconds for the application code version number to
appear on the display.
) and (
) to select the correct value for the application.
