Before carrying out any maintenance operation:
-
-
Warning
-
Only use original parts or equivalent parts to prevent damage to the generating set
7.1. Checking bolts, nuts and screws
To prevent faults or breakdowns, carefully check all the nuts, bolts and screws on a daily basis.
Inspect the entire generating set before and after each use.
Tighten any loose nuts or bolts.
The cylinder head bolts must be tightened by a specialist. Refer to the agent for your region.
Warning
7.2. Renewing the motor oil
Observe the environmental protection advice (see section 1.3.9 Protecting the environment) and drain the oil into an appropriate
container.
With the engine still warm, remove the drain plug (diag. B – no. 2) and filler cap (diag. B – no. 1).
After draining completely, refit the drain plug.
Use a funnel to top up with the recommended oil (see section 10, Specifications) to the upper limit on the dipstick.
Refit the filler cap.
Wipe off any traces of oil with a clean cloth.
Check that there are no oil leaks.
7.3. Cleaning the sediment bowl
Do not smoke, cause sparks or bring naked flames into the vicinity. Check there are no leaks, wipe
away all traces of fuel and ensure vapours have dispersed before starting the generating set.

Danger

Close the fuel tap (fig. A – no. 3).
Remove the sediment bowl (fig. D – no. 1) and the seal (fig. D – no. 2).
Wash the bowl with a non-flammable solvent or a solvent with a high flash point.
Dry the bowl completely.
Refit the seal and the bowl.
Open the fuel tap to check that there are no leaks, then close the tap.

7.4. Cleaning the air filter

Never use petrol or flammable solvents for cleaning the air filter element (risk of fire or explosion).
Warning
Remove the wing nut (diag. E – no. 1) securing the cover (diag. E – no. 2), then remove the cover.
Remove the wing nut (diag. E – no. 3) securing the filter.
Remove the assembly consisting of foam (diag. E – no. 4) and paper elements (diag.E – no. 5) and separate them.
Check carefully that the two elements are not torn or pierced. Replace them if they are damaged.
Clean the foam element:
A)
Wash the element in a solution of household cleaning product and warm water, then rinse thoroughly, or wash it in non-
flammable solvent or a solvent with a high flash point. Allow the element to dry completely.
B) Soak the element in clean engine oil and remove the excess oil. If there is too much oil remaining in the foam, the engine will
emit smoke when it is first started.
Clean the paper element:
Tap the element lightly several times on a hard surface to remove excess dirt, or send compressed air through the filter, from the
inside outward. Never try to remove dirt using a brush. Replace the element if it is extremely clogged.
Carry out refitting following the reverse procedure for removal.

7.5. Cleaning the spark arrester

Undo the two 12 mm nuts (diag. F – no. 1) and remove the exhaust silencer (diag. F – no. 2).
Undo the five 5 mm screws (diag. F – no. 3) securing the silencer guard (diag. F – no. 4) and remove the guard.
Remove the 4 mm mounting screw (diag. F – no. 5) from the spark arrester (diag. F – no. 6) and remove the spark arrester.
Using a wire brush, remove the carbon deposits from the spark arrester screen.
Note: The spark arrester must have no holes or cracks .Replace if necessary.
Refit the spark arrester, the guard and the exhaust silencer in the reverse order to removal.
