4.1.3 Lubrication system

4.1.3.1. Shutdown due to low oil pressure

The shutdown function as a result of low oil pressure protects the engine against the risk of internal damage, in the event of a drop
in oil pressure below a minimum pressure, following an oil pump fault or any other fault.
This function does not, however, provide any protection against damage caused by operating the engine when the oil level is below
the minimum safe level; the generating set is not shut down in the event of a low oil level. It is important to check the oil level
regularly and top it up when necessary.

4.1.3.2. Oil level check

The generating set is supplied full of oil. Before starting a new generating set, check the level of engine oil in the sump. See figure
4.1 for the dipstick location. Check that the oil level reaches the "F" mark on the dipstick. Top up with oil of a suitable viscosity for
the climatic conditions.
Check the oil level before each use. For extended operation, check the oil level every 8 hours.
Do not check the oil level while the generating set is running. Switch off the generating set and wait approximately 30 minutes
before checking the engine oil.

4.1.3.3. Engine oil recommendations

Use 5W-30 synthetic oil of grade "SG", "SH" or "SJ" according to the API (American Petroleum Institute). Synthetic oils tend to
oxidise and thicken less than other oils and maintain the inlet valves and engine pistons in the best possible condition.
