Notes:
• Only use 3-point support for the furniture batts, as otherwise they will be subjected to bending stress, which will
lead to deformations or cracks.
• The ware must never be placed directly on the base plate of the kiln.
• Note that all furniture batts and cordierite supports must be pre-fired.
• Additional cordierite supports and furniture batts are available as optional accessories.
• Check the furniture material regularly for damage and cracks.
• Make sure damaged furniture material is replaced.
• The heating behaviour in the kiln changes the more ware is stacked in the kiln. Keeping firing logs helps to
identify changes in the firing operation and to achieve recurring results.
9.4.

Reduction firing

NOTE
If possible, avoid reducing firings, as these lead to the breakdown of the oxidation layer on the
heating elements and thus considerably shorten their service life.
9.5.

Empty firing

It is recommended that an empty firing is carried out after every 20th use of the kiln.
The empty firing is necessary to remove impurities from the kiln and to renew the protective oxide layer on the heating
elements.
The protective oxide layer is necessary to significantly extend the service life of the heating elements.
The following special features apply to empty firings:
• Before the empty firing: vacuum out the firing chamber. Dust and debris can shorten the life of the heating
elements. Avoid touching the heating elements when vacuuming.
• The empty firing must be carried out without ware.
• During empty firing - in contrast to normal use - the air inlet and exhaust air opening must not be closed.
• The kiln should cool down normally after the dry firing with the kiln door closed. This process can take several
hours, but it helps to extend the life of the kiln significantly.
NOTE
The empty firing does not replace the regular cleaning of the kiln and the firing chamber.
More serious contamination should be removed immediately at the next opportunity so that it
cannot burn into the kiln insulation and the heating elements.
