BRAKE BAR REPLACEMENT (HYDRAULIC BASE)

TOOLS REQUIRED:
• Floor Jack
• (2) 3/4 in. Sockets
• 11/16 in. Socket
• 3/8 in. Drive Ratchet
• 3/8 in. Drive Angled Ratchet
• (2) 1/2 in. Combination Wrenches
• 9/16 in. Combination Wrench
• 5/8 in. Combination Wrench
• (2) Bungee Cords (or equivalent)
• OG2 Grease (Stryker p/n: M0027)
PROCEDURE:
1. Raise the litter and the rails to the highest
position.
2. Lift the base hood, separating the Velcro
fasteners holding it to the base, and support it
using bungee cords.
3. Use a floor jack to raise the end of the base
needing repair approximately 9 in.. Casters
should be about 2-1/2 in. off the floor.
4. Using a 5/8 in. combination wrench and an 11/16
in. socket to remove the nut and bolt holding the
caster to the caster horn (A).
5. Using a 3/4 in. socket and a 3/4 in. combination
wrench, remove the locknut (B), base hood
support (C), caster adjusting socket, washer and
bolt holding the caster to the base. Remove both
casters.
6. Using a 9/16 in. combination wrench, remove the two locknuts (E), two washers (F), two compression springs (G),
two brake rod guides (H) and two stoppers (J) holding the brake bar rods to the base frame.
Note
Apply OG2 grease to the brake bar before reassembly.
7. Using two 1/2 in. combination wrenches, remove the locknut (K), two shoulder spacers (L) and bolt (M) holding the
brake levers to the brake bar bushing. Remove the defective brake bar.
Note
Do not lubricate the shoulder spacers. if they are worn, replace them.
8. Reverse the above steps to install the new brake bar and reinstall the casters. Be sure to install the brake bar
with the bushing side facing toward the inside of the base. Verify the brakes engage and disengage properly
before replacing the base hood and returning the stretcher to service. If adjustment is required, see the "Brake
Adjustment" (see page 1-34)
