STEERING FRICTION INSPECTION/
ADJUSTMENT
1) Set the friction lever in the lock position (i.e. move
fully to the left until it contacts with the stopper).
2) Apply the load of 100 N (10.0 kgf, 22.05 lbf) to the
center of the tiller handle throttle grip, and be sure
that the tiller handle does not move.
STOPPER
• If the tiller handle moves under the load of
100 N (10.0 kgf, 22 lbf) or below:
Set the friction lever in the lock position (i.e.
move fully to the left until it contacts the
stopper), and tighten the 8 mm self-locking nut
to 9.5 N . m (0.95 kgf . m, 6.87 lbf . ft).

3) If the tiller handle still moves under the load of
100 N (10.0 kgf, 22.05 lbf) or below after
tightening the 8 mm self-locking nut to 9.5 N . m
(0.95 kgf . m, 6.87 lbf . ft), check the friction block
pad surface for contamination with grease:
-1 Remove the 8 mm self-locking nut, 8 mm
washer and friction lever.
-2 Remove the nylon washer and friction block,
-3 Remove the two 6 x 12 mm flange bolts and

on the swivel case.
• Install the friction plate by pushing it against the
mount frame.
