5.6 | Transistor test

IMPORTANT!
Risk of damage!
• Always remove the test leads before inserting
a transistor into the test socket. The transistor
test socket is not protected against overload.
1. Set the rotary switch to the hFE function.
2. Insert the negative terminal of the test socket into the COM jack,
and the positive terminal into the VΩmAhFE jack.
3. Determine whether the transistor is NPN or PNP type, and insert
the transistor into the test socket accordingly. If the transistor does
not fit the socket, never try to force it in, as this would damage the
socket.
4. Read off the hFE value. The value is not absolutely accurate, as it
is temperature-dependent, for example. It merely tells you whether
the transistor is functional or not.
5. It is not possible to measure an hFE value on transistors that are
connected in a circuit. The same applies to FETs and other unipolar
transistors.

5.7 | Acoustic continuity test

1. Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test
lead to the VΩmAhFE jack.
2. Set the rotary switch to the
3. Attach the red lead to the input of the circuit and the black
test lead to the output to measure the continuity (circuit is
de-energised). If the resistance is lower than 10 – 50 ohms, an
acoustic signal is emitted.
