Spark plug
(Fig. 13)
Remove the plug and check condition. Good
operating conditions are indicated if the plug has a
light coating of grey or tan deposit. A white blistered
coat could indicate overheating. A black (carbon)
coating may indicate an over rich fuel mixture caused
by a blocked air cleaner or incorrect carburettor
adjustment.
DO NOT sand blast, wire brush or otherwise service a
plug in poor condition.
Best results are obtained with a new plug. Set the
plug gap (A) to 0.6 - 0.7mm (0.023 -0.27in).

Valve clearance
1.
Remove the head cover.
2.
Set the piston at top dead centre on the
compression stroke. This will ensure valves
are seated.
3.
Check clearance. Both inlet and exhaust should
be:
0.05 - 0.10mm (0.0020 - 0.0039in)
This should be checked by using a feeler gauge
between the tip of the valve stem and the
rocker arm on both valves.
4.
If the clearance exceeds the recommended
gap, adjust the gap with the adjusting nut.
5.
Replace the head cover securely.
NOTE: The valve clearance should be checked
and adjusted with the engine cold.
After adjusting the valve clearance, secure the
adjusting nut with the locknut.
